Of all the trees I have around my house I had birds nesting on my front porch. I tried all kind of ways to discourage them and finally found the trick. I bought a plastic snake at the dollar store and mounted it near their favorite nesting spot... no more nests. I was a little concerned it would scare the humming birds but they don't seem to pay it any attention.

I ran drip irrigation around the perimeter and tied it back into itself. No flow loss. Has filter and on atimer. We've been in a drought for several years. I haven't had a garden in about 7 years.
We did get some rain today!
Every row has irrigation down the middle and I punched an adjustable dripper at each plant.
Everything is tee'd off and tied back in.

I'm experimenting with horizontal lattice hoping to train watermelons and cantaloupes up top with melons below.

You're fortunate to have so much water so close.

Yes sir. We don't use fertilizer either. Everything we plant grows like weeds! We have a few full rain barrels set up just in case we don't get rain for a week or two.

Kolunatic thanks for the idea... hay of course. I've been wanting to mulch my plants but couldn't decide what to use. Had considered pine straw but worried about it's acidity not being good for the plants.

Todays rain was the first in I cant remember when. I was thinking on getting poly tanks to catch rain water but its about a dollar per gallon until you hit 300 then price comes down. Im on a well.

I was trying to save money. I got compressed straw bales from tractor supply for 10 bucks. 20 bucks for whole garden.

A guy at feed store said to not use hay it could bring you weeds. My grass still pokes thru areas but not so much. Another advantage of drip.

I won't need much for what I have. We've got a couple of horse stables near by so maybe they won't mind me grabbing a grocery bag full.

I'm pretty sure I have that exact type of fencing around my chicken coop! It makes it easy to move around and assemble in different ways.

They're dog runs. I had a kennel with 8 in and out runs. No more kennel. But you can move em all around .
