So first off, let me say I am by no means a wine drinker. I probably have 3 glasses a year if that.

But my boss made a nice batch of Plum wine around Christmas time and I bought a bottle off him. So last night I saw the bottle sitting on the counter and decided it was a good time to open it up and try it.

I looked and looked for about 10 mins and finally realized I dont even own a corkscrew to open the damn thing. So i started looking for an old swiss army knife. Couldnt find it either. So i went to the garage and grabbed a long drywall screw and screwed it in the cork and popped it out with a pair of pliers.

I thought it was pretty genius. My wife thought it was the funniest and most redneck thing she had ever seen.

    Thoughts?

haha been there before. I did it with a DeWalt Drill and a wood screw and pulled it out with a hammer though. Never underestimate redneck ingenuity

I've done that before and one better. For a long time, my 'corkscrew' was a 3-1/2" wood screw drilled through and glued into a piece of wood to act as a T-handle. No tools required after that, just screw it in and tug the cork out.

    Ha nice!

The first time I ever got drunk was with my cousin and we were around 15-16. Our family was having a party and we stole a few Corona's from the cooler and went into the woods to drink them and realized they weren't twist-off tops. No problem. We simply busted the tops off with a rock and enjoyed the spoils of victory

HAha, same here! My wife and I don't drink, so we never had a need for the 'tools'. We had friends come over once who we know drinks wine with dinner and they told us they would bring their own wine. We rushed to the store to buy wine glasses, did not know if they were bringing white or red, so we had to buy 4 of each. Then when they showed up we realized that we did not have an opener. Fortunately I have my 'MacGuyver' swiss army knifes everywhere in the house and in each vehicle, so I was able to open the bottle for them.

The screw idea is clever, but I've always just pushed the cork into the bottle when I couldn't find a corkscrew handy...

Its funny. Like I said, I dont drink wine. Never have really liked it.

The first drink, it was awesome. Then the after taste hit me and i didnt care for it. But i kept drinking. I pretty much forced myself to drink the glass. It was strong. Got a slight buzz from it.

The more I drank the WORSE it got. Usually its the other way around, the more you drink the better it gets....

Maybe i'll try it again tonight.

I can't drink wine because I love the taste. It was me and the fiancee's 5 year anniversary last Friday and I drank almost an entire double bottle. Woke up the next morning and it felt like I got hit in the head with a bat. I can drink anything else all night and feel fine, but that wine is horrible, hangover wise!

Honestly, if I'm drinking wine, I'm more of a Mead fan personally. I like some wines, but mostly I'll stick with a good mead.

    Haha...
Redneck it may be, but it works and it's a lot faster than sinking a drywall screw and working the cork out with a pair of pliers! :D
