    Not my wife though...

Long story a little over a year ago we rescued a German Shepard who was around 6 months old and not spayed. We have a complratly secure back yard and she is only off leach when hunting or camping so was not concerned about having puppy's and wife was worried about getting her spayed ( we lost a previous dog during surgery)

Fast forward 5 months wife wanted a 2nd dog we chose to rescue a dog at the pound about to put down that was surrendered he is a border collie lab mix. We paid for shots and for him yo be nuyered before we went to pick him up took just under a week for him to get everything done.

Fast forward now to around 2 weeks ago my Shepard (Luna) started noticibly putting on weight was worried about her being pregnant so checked the back yard and there was no access for a dog to have snuck in or out.. Only dog with access to her is bacon our other rescue who is fixed ... So we cut back on her diet.

I work thursday-sunday and have 0 time off for anything during the 4 days. I got home Sunday and Luna was acting very funny I had her lay down and noticed her breasts were filling up... Holy shit she is pregnant. I start freaking out trying to figure out when this could have happend... And can't think of anywhere she had access to a un fixed male...

I call bacon over and think hmmm I never really checked him to see if he was fixed he went to the vet and I paid for it... So I turn him over so ball sack.. Think more and he is the only dog she had been around. So I call him back over and make things weird and grab where they should be... SUPRISE bacon has balls and no sac....

Well Luna had 9 puppy's last night 6 colored just like bacon 3 same as her.

Call pound this morning they have all the paper work saying he is fixed. They call the vet vet calls me and assures me there is no way it was him and they performed the surgery. I argue and they say they would be more then happy to show me the paper work and scars if I bring him in and that a dog had yo have gotten to her some other way..

I drive up to the vet they bring us back and put him up on the table grab and The vets eyes get huge.....

Vet is blaming pound pound is blaming the vet... And I have 11 dogs... Been a fun 2 days... Bacon had surgery this morning again (suposibly) going to check my self this time around ..

    I fill so ignorant that

    1) I didn't check him on the first place..

    2) I didn't know she was pregnant till the day before she had the puppy's ...

    The end.

Going to be working at getting vet to cover evrrything. No matter how you look at it.. We paid for him to be fixed and they released him with out it being done.. Still feel partially responsible for not checking my self..

Wow, that sucks! Hopefully everything gets covered and taken care of. Wish I was closer as I'm entertaining the idea of getting a pup.

Sounds like you had a cryptorchid on your hands ;)

If this is the case I'd definitely notify anyone about it who adopts the male puppies. It can be genetic.
