No they don't, I spent the first 4 years doing nothing but residential cut ins & as builts/retrofits on existing structures, some new construction, sometimes do a tract, once I did my first set finish with T bar cielings & lay-ins it was over I was hooked on commercial..

What sucks about residential? Is it the pay? Or just prefer commercial. I think I wouldnt stress being in an attic/crawlspace or basement as much a I would being up super high.

Are those notches in the beam for rafters to connect to? If so I bet the finished product is awesome.
On an unrelated note, ladders don't bother me one bit.

Don't care at all for ladders. I was in the Health and Safety field before, and seen some terrible injuries from even small ladders. They are a necessity for many though.

I only have to use them on rare occasions. More often I use an articulating lift. The highest I need to go is about 40'. Still, pretty shakey up there.

Check with your employer , they may need to supply you with a longer ladder . The 4 top rungs are used to over extend whatever you are working from .

Sometimes its hard to get a bigger ladder in certain spaces though, but I prefer the tallest one I can get so I have something to hang onto.

New residential is all about production really, but its not too bad, as long as you have someone in front of you cutting for heat (usually a carpenter)

On existing residential, where you are putting in a system (cut in) is what I got tired of, being stuck in attics that hovered around 122 degress, & no not in the desert, just normal heat accumilation in a poorly ventilated area with insulation blowing around you, you can have it, or laying in half frozen mud under some old ass house running duct or suspending a furnace, if those things dont bother you have at it, but like i said learn the wet side, I'm sure buzzard would agree

Residential pay isn't as good, but there is still plenty of money to be made. Crawl spaces really suck... I'm terrified of snakes and my worst fear is coming across one under a house

The bearing was inside the framework and external guarding made it impossible to get the ladder into any usefull position.

If you wanna be an installer the rest of your life do commercial. If you wanna be a service tech try both and pick from there. Residential change outs can be a real pain

Where I work, the plant gets hot in the summer (100°+ in some places) but it doesn't get that hot anywhere!

I don't mind working from them, locking in on them, sliding head first down them or lowering a stokes basket on them.

What I DO NOT LIKE is raising and lowering a 24' ladder alone to full extension without it touching or resting on anything. -former reserve firefighter
