I assume that's your station, not the whole department, right?
Our slowest station averages 2 per day, the busiest is about 12.
These are calls the engine runs on.
We have a couple rescues in the county that *average* 14 or more per shift.

My department has run at least 12000 calls since the new year. These do not include inspections, pre plans or training.

We only have one station on the Nevada side which I work for. There are 2 departments on the Utah side. There's the city fire department, and they have a small airport that has ARFF guys. Utah side is all volunteer. Our department is combination.

It was just the first structure I got to make entry in and there ended up being 5 dead people with gun shot wounds, and a 6th from smoke inhilation. There was a 7th person that lived in the house that had just gone to work before all this happened. I think it was like 1 1/2 years after I started. Just ended up being a pretty jacked up call.

Yea it was. Speaking of which, dang it's been pretty slow here this weekend. Just had a call early saturday morning for a vehicle accident with unknown injuries but we got cancelled enroute because the trooper notified dispatch that it was property damage only, no injuries. Which is a good thing. Well, I probably just jinxed myself. "BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!"

Told you I jinxed myself. Had a single vehicle roll-over a couple hours ago with extrication needed. Cribbed the car and cut the roof off. One patient involved and he was pretty messed up. Hope he makes it.

Our job ran just under 9500 calls last year. The City is very old with a lot of wood frame construction. Some of our special hazards are a busy working port, the largest oil refinery in Canada,a nuclear generating station and a brand new state of the art LNG terminal (largest in North America).Coupled with the fact that the City is spread over 120 square miles and we have suffered major cutbacks to our Department, offering a protective service here can be challenging. We have great support for the most part of the citizens but the bean counters would see us stripped even furthur.

Once again,I sure appreciate the support given here.We have a job that makes it in the paper and on the news sometimes but bravery, heroism and honor is displayed by people from all walks of life a million times a day just getting by in this life......Keep on keeping on everyone.:)

Ya, those are good calls, but bad at the same time because lives are involved. Its been a while here for a good (well I guess bad) TC where we had to use extrication. Half the time I get stuck in the car with the patient cuz i'm the youngest.

Your welcome..... I guess. I don't do it for the glory.
I am a flight paramedic and a volunteer firefighter.
The only thing I wish could change would be that people recognize EMS as much as FFs in terms of appreciation. People always recognize Fire and Police. But never EMS. EMS is just as important when it comes to bustin ass to save your ass.

I have to deal with flight medics all the time cuz my seasonal station is in the middle of nowhere and we always fly the patients out and I love you guys lol. I have to thank all the medics because you guys show up when we need them the most. I love nothing more than handing you guys a patient. lol.

Thank you to all who support Law enforcement, Fire, and EMS!!! My mentor who helped me get into the fire service always said "If there was a better way to make a living... I have not found it". I am blessed to serve and get paid for it. I have worked paid, part-time/paid-call, and volunteer and can say without a doubt being a "Professional Firefighter" has nothing to due with pay but with attitude and performance. Thank you to all the Professional Firefighters.

To me Law Enforcement has the hard job. We don't go in until they deem it safe. Thank you!!!

My family asks me about moving on to another job and making more money. BUT they also know that I love going to work which is something that most people can't say.

I love being a FF, but if cops could work shifts like we have (24/48's) and could chill at a station instead of riding in the car all day, I'd want to be a cop, I think they have such a cool job.
Of course if I got more fires than EMS calls I wouldn't say that, but... that's the way the cookie crumbles. I'll be in medic school in a few months, boy is that gonna be fun

Ya I know what its called I just couldnt remember how to spell it. Thanks for the correction, I knew it didnt look right.

I am actually attempting to jump over to Law Enforcement (the dark side) but with the economy going to hell and all cities cutting positions I dont forsee a full time job anytime in the near future with fire. But who doesnt want to carry a gun and chase bad guys in L.A. lol

Yeah that's true. I don't think they will cut off law enforcement down on jobs. Good luck if you go down that route.;)

I loved being an LEO, it gets into your blood and its hard to shake. But after being stabbed twice, (once with a meat fork and once with a dirty needle), and being run over by a drunk driver (broke both legs, cracked 3 ribs, and collapsed a lung), my wife had had enough. I had to chose her or the job and quite frankly, she rides better than a cruiser.
