I can tell you for certain that DNA evidence I've collected at crime scenes, to wit robberies and burglaries, has been used to identify and convict shitheads for those crimes. Comparatively speaking, these crimes are less serious than homicides and rapes. That number you provided will increase across the board.

Ok, dammit Oz... I'm fine with death convictions when proven without a reasonable doubt BUT I do want harder time regardless ! I'm sick of this cable tv bullshit (I don't even have cable)... If you're in jail, do some fucking work. Clean, plant a garden that produces something... Just DO SOMETHING productive to society!

I don't think it says anywhere in there that DNA evidence is not used in other crime convictions

It's not supposed to be a deterrent, it's the 'cost' or punishment of committing the capital crime.

I am a supporter of the death penalty but another route could be to ship them off to a VERY remote island in Alaska with a GPS locater and if they can survive 2 years with nothing from the start.. Survival of the fittest

If you truly believe that, then you should research and study more. Even modern day convictions are overturned on appeal due to incorrectly analyzed or gathered DNA evidence.

There are still plenty of work farms and "chain gangs" out there. In Texas most of the prisons require those who are capable of working to have a job. Different prisons either farm produce, farm livestock, or create clothing for the convicts. Who does the jobs? Other convicts! Pretty decent idea to help reduce the tax burden, even though it is still expensive as hell!

this is such a simple problem. Have 2 tax brackets. For the penalty, and against. The taxes from those who are against it go into a pool, and that money is used to "save" as many people as they can afford. After that the money for those who are for it comes in and starts cleaning house.

Let's just wall off Staten Island like in "Escape from New York" and mine the harbor and bridges into/out of there.
