~ It moves on 12 crawlers (each is 12 feet wide, 8' high and 46 feet long).There are 8 crawlers in front and 4 in back.
It has a maximum speed of 1 mile in 3 hours (1/3 mile/hour).
~ It can remove over 76,455 cubic meters each day.(100,000 large dump trucks at 40yds. each)

 

Impressive. The Titanic weighed 45,000 tons, so this thing is as large as a large ocean liner.

It reminds me of the machine from dirty jobs that moves the space shuttle. Mike Rowe had to clean out the grease haha

Apparently this was the world's biggest earth mover until 1999 when it was retired and dismantled. It was called "Big Muskie" and weighed 13,000 tons and was 12 stories tall.

There is a video of this out there somewhere...They had to move it like 10 miles from one mine to another...and they couldnt take it apart so they had to drive it through farmers fields...They had to take down power lines and dig up water lines....It was a pretty cool show...Think it was called Mega Machines...

was wondering if someone would post up 'the Muskie. that bucket is still here! they made a little monument to this behemoth...nothing more that a kiosk a few pictures and that giant bucket sitting there. This baby moved some serious earth here in Muskingum County (<--Muskie) a friend of mine's dad has the original operator's chair in his basement, where he sits to run his train table lol he is an electrician and did a lot of the wiring inside it. he also has a slice of the power cord that supplied the electricity that ran it...it's gotta be 7-8" in diameter. EPA regulations on our "dirty" coal ended the Big Muskie. They call it the "Big" Muskie cause it had a smaller brother. i'm told there was enough steel there to build like 8000 cars when they scraped it.

I did some work on the wheels for said machine a few months ago. I asked if I could collect the wheels in my Taco and work on them in my yard they, they said 'probably not, they weigh about 10,000 lbs!'

That thing's a beast - it has about 16 of these wheels.
