Stupid, stupid, stupid idea. Minimum education and skills=minimum wage. You earn your salary and work your way up. Why should our cost of living hike up because of 16 year olds and adults who are economically dumb?

Pretty certain that the minimum wage in Seattle will have no bearing on your cost of living in Texas

I know where Seattle is. But this is a starting point and will probably end up spreading to other states. Texas has nothing to worry about but this is outrageous and irresponsible.

And the basis of your argument is?

I see it as being somewhat of a good thing. It's like welfare, sure some people abuse it and others need it to get by because of unforeseen circumstances. It's a good thing for those who are in school earning their education. What is the average debt in student loans a graduate incurs after graduation? About $29k IIRC.

Bad idea. Especially for small businesses. Can't believe that shit is gonna happen.

Don't folks realize that their hours are likely going to get cut to make up for the extra wages? Full time (40hrs/wk) at $12 = part time (32hrs/wk) at $15 by my math.

Your dollar is a vote of sorts, I'm sure some fast food places among others will slow way down. No one makes us go there. I wonder what grocery stores pay, before and after.

And that's the problem, if $15 is a living wage then everything else goes up. Minimum wage jobs are supposed to be for entry level teenagers. I'm sorry for the ghetto who are crying about more money to spend on drugs and such. Stop having sex and bearing children that they know they can't support! WEAR A CONDAMNN

Definitely a bad idea. Small businesses will definitely suffer, people will have less motivation to better themselves/strive for a higher paying job. There will be even less entry level positions because less people will be moving positions.

Maybe I'm way offbase but I don't think minimum wage should be intended to be a livable salary. If you are working a minimum wage position you are most likely someone's dependent, if not get a second job. :notsure:

The end result will be costs of goods will go up because there is no way the employers are just going to absorb the cost. In the end it doesn't help anything. This is very similar to what happened in Greece before they went under.

Really, the basis of my argument? Come on man it's economics 101, I'm in college and I'm getting by just great. It may be different here in Texas but still, if a student knows they can't pay back what they borrow then don't go to college, wait a year or so, save your money, build your resume, gain skills. So many different variables that garner such debts. I spend $10 a week or so on gas, getting more than half a tank is a beautiful, yet rare site. Community colleges aren't a bad thing if the general student sees it that way, core classes are the same there and here at a university. Ramen noodle lunches aren't fun either but the general student needs to realize that going out to eat everyday will drain the bank account little by little. End rant, for now.

Oh not to mention if I was an employer and had to pay someone 15 bucks an hour it's going to be someone with a resume that is strong not just some guy that doesn't have a diploma or anything else.

You're really not making much sense. The correlation between minimum wage and economic assistance is a stretch. I started at minimum wage and ended up doubling what I was making in 4 years. I jumped ship and joined the military and immediately saw my pay cut in half. I didn't have kids and I wasn't dependent on assistance to get by. I also didn't have a car and lived on one of those ship things. 8 years later and 28 years old I was married with a newborn, I was an E5 in the military and qualified for assistance. Didn't take it.

More money goes into the work force and more money goes into the local economy through business and sales taxes.

That is until outsourcing is cheaper which will happen quickly at 15 dollars an hour minimum wage.
