Depression is a hell of a thing to deal with. It comes in many shapes and forms.

I don't believe that. There has to be root cause, something that sparked it. What is it? It could all stem from one instance or occurrence or even multiple occurrences. I guess we'll never know unless his wife knows what was going on with him.

In reality who is to know for sure with him, probably neither me or you. Maybe it did have a root cause, but what I was saying is I'm not so sure it "has'' to. But you're right it could have multiple reasons. And by "it" I meant depression.

I've said it in the past and will continue to do so, it's ok, you don't have to take up a position. Many people have suffered from depression, myself included. There is always a better way, no one should take their own life. It solves nothing, if anything it create more problems. It's purely a selfish act. Mental health issue, yes, but still a selfish act. Just my opinion.

And it's been a while, but I've read your thread. I can relate in a lot of ways, believe me. Which is why I've made a couple post here. I've started a couple of times to post up in your PTSD thread but haven't because it would've been long and maybe it wouldn't have flowed right at the time, maybe the time will come.

I think it's important for everyone who reads all this about Robin and or your PTSD thread or knows of someone, to gain a better understanding of people literally suffering misery daily with mental things.. And that doesn't make you a pussy etc. The stigmatisms are ignorant.

In a perfect world I agree. But we don't live in that perfect world. The depths of depression vary from mild to unbelievable pain and torture. While it doesn't appear that you and I will agree on this... I personally believe there is a point when your mind gives up and you have no control anymore. If you think you can slip a noose around your neck, OD on meds, or the countless other ways to do harm to yourself and consciously do those things with intent to die. I think you are mistaken. I believe your mind has given up and there is no more control.

PTSD and Depression go hand in hand. I would have never dreamed one day I would end up where I did but I did. I have no conscious recollection of that day nor do I consciously think I considered doing what I did. But I got lucky.

You can read the link in my sig if you like for a better understanding or not that is your choice. We have different opinions and that is fine also. I just know the true depths of what can happen because I've been at the bottom of that well.

There was a lot of darkness he has had to deal with. He was twice divorced, and according to recent news was TENS of million dollars in debt on alimony, and was nearly broke. Divorce can take a rich man and make him a pauper pretty fast. He was working on a second Mrs Doubtfire, as well as a TV show recently, that was not by choice, but by NEED because he was in financial ruin. Throw into that mix a SERIOUS alcohol addiction that he has been battling off and on for most of his adult life, and you are talking some SERIOUS fuel for depression.

Humph. Watched Hook last night; realized that we've lost 2/3rds of that lead actor trifecta (Williams, Hoskins, Hoffman) this year.
And there's still 4 months left in 2014.

What a shame. Robin Williams was a comic genius. IMO probably one of the best ever to grace us. I don't know if any of you had seen him on Inside the Actor's Studio with him but if you haven't, you really should. It was an hour of Robin showing his absolute genius capabilities. Unreal! RIP.
