I'm seriously thinking a 3rd shift job would be ideal for me. Still get to see the family and do most things during the day and still able to sleep and have a productive life.

I have to go to bed like a 3rd grader to get up at 4:30am

I take 3mg of melatonin and I'm asleep in about 10-15 minutes

My wife could take the whole bottle and still be up hours later

I don't think about work when I'm not there ... my wife plans tomorrow tonight

    Sleep ... Sleep ... zzzzz

The dr. Gave me a larger prescription than what I needed. He gave me a prescription about double what a normal person would use because of my "size".Basically it put me into such a sleep that different parts of my body started shutting Down. Had my ex wife not checked on me when she did I would have probably died.

I used to work 5p-3am Thursday thru Monday for 2 years. Sometimes I wouldn't crash out until 6 or 7am. I would sleep until about noon, get some exercise, nap for an hour and back to work. But then I was single with no kids then.

Don't normally like to talk about myself or join in the conversation a whole lot, but this is a problem that I've dealt with my entire life.

I have a family history of sleep problems (dad's side). Been a restless sleeper since I was born according to my mother. When I was 25 it was so bad - getting about 2 hours per night- that I finally broke down and had a sleep study done. I couldn't sleep, of course so they ended up giving me something to make me sleepy. They wanted at least 6 hours of data and only ended up getting 4. During that 4 hours they said I spent 95% of my time in stage 1 & 2 sleep and only dipped into REM once for 5 seconds. They told me I essentially woke up every 1.5 minutes. It was no wonder I always felt like spent the whole night staring at the ceiling.

Anyway my sleep doctor tried a whole bunch of different sleep medications which either didn't work or made me completely unable to function the next day due to grogginess. The only drug that seemed to work was Lunesta which came out some 6-8 months after my sleep study. I took it for a while, but never liked the weird metallic taste in my mouth when I took it so I stopped after a few months. It did help somewhat regulate me so that I could get at least 5 hours of not great sleep, but better than I'd had before. A couple of years ago I had a doctor prescribe hydroxyzine (an antihistamine) for allergies and surprisingly it helps me sleep very well most nights. I average 5-7 hours of good sleep in which I actually dream and remember them. As far as I'm concerned, it is a miracle drug.
