Hey everyone sorry if this is in the wrong place, my girlfriend got a ticket at a parking structure for staying later then the pass allowed, she received a ticket from the parking company not the police, long story short she forgot about the ticket and found it about a month later, does she have to pay this? The parking in the city is a mess so she's worried she might get a boot, getting her car towed, or even worse getting a warrant for her arrest, anyone have any insight on what they can actually do if you don't pay. Thanks!

Why wouldn't you pay a fine you've been given rightfully? Follow the rule. Whether its the police dept law or the parking garage rules it shouldn't matter. Moral integrity is a law too, pay it and next time mind the rules of the parking garage and be more organized so tickets don't disappear for a month.

What makes you think you shouldn't have to pay it? Are you special some how?

If you're city is like our city then yes, she needs to pay this ticket. Trust me the sooner she pays it the lower the cost. She broke a rule and now it's time to pay the 10-40 dollars she owes.

My fiancé works in security/parking enforcement at our local university. The tickets she issues are covered under the city bylaws and carry an equal penalty as any other parking ticket once they at overdue.

In general most cities won't boot or mess with a car over one overdue ticket. They will wait until you hit a magic number of tickets and then it's boot/tow time. However in most places overdue tickets must be paid before you can renew your license/tags. So she'll have to pay when she renews her tags and then they usually tack on extra fees.

Burn it, the car I mean. That way they cant boot it. I'd ignore the ticket and then ask for a hearing if something from the state came. Just so the cost of the fine would off set the ot made by private meter maid.

Glad it's getting taken care of. Hoping they don't add to her fine for any late fees or anything.

Just an FYI. You may want to check her credit reports. Tickets that go to collections sometimes are reported to the credit reporting bureaus.

So was it a private company? If so, then their only action would be to file a claim or send her overdue receivable to a collections company. Both of these are not worth the headache and you're better off paying the ticket. However, can't think of why it would affect vehicle reg unless it was the city/state that gave the ticket.

Does the company ticket have a bylaw reference on it? Private companies can be licensed to issue tickets by your local bylaw enforcement. If there is a bylaw referenced on the back or front of the ticket it is no different from a normal parking ticket no matter who issues it.

Also if it's a private ticket there is above reasonable grounds for them to tow her vehicle if she violates her permit again. If it's a bylaw enforced ticket she's safe for at least a few more tickets
