Canadain wife?

So today my wife became a Canadian citizen due to a new law. Dual citizen. That means that our children will be dual citizens as well. This is quite a shock to me.

 

How the fook does that just "happen"??

 

I just find it strange that all of a sudden because of a new law, somebody's citizenship status can be changed.

america does not recognize dual citizenship. she may be a dual citizen per canada... but the us will not recognize her as a canadian citizen if she is already an american cit.

when I became naturalized US (born in Canada) there was talk about renouncing Canada for my security clearance. I did not have to do this so I am still a Canadian citizen... but I am a naturalized US citizen and claim that. I'll never lose my Canadian Citizenship unless I renounce it (on my own accord of course).

 

what i am saying is that once you are a united states cit. you are one for ever aquiring a dual cit to another country means that that country will see you as a cit of there country and ours but america only recognizes you as a united states cit. trust me on this... its my job.

 

like del said, I won't renounce my Canadian citizenship, unless it's on my own accord. I have a greencard, which is good for 10 years, so if I change my mind, I can apply for citizenship in a couple three years....btw what's a Canadain wife???

well then the training that i did is out dated. i when i was trained on the nationality law you were only allowed to be a us cit if you renounced your cit to a previous country. For example... a mex cit would have to renounce his cit to be a naturalized us cit but that was only for the purpose of becoming a united state cit but mex would still recognize him as a mex cit therefore having dual cit. but like i said previous what i was taught is now out dated i apologize
