I've missed this thread, time to revive it; for a cosmological theory apropos to Family Guy's version of God, see the Big Rip:

    Revival! :D

I haven't bothered with this thread since the Space and Science BS thread kind of took over. But anyway, I guess this can still be the one for alternative thoughts and theories.

With all the recent amazing space news, flowing water on Mars, Pluto having blue skies and water ice, I wonder if we are actually in the early stages of Disclosure? For those not familiar with Disclosure, it is the official acknowledgement from the government that life exists outside of our planet, and we may possibly be in contact with this life. Disclosure is said to be done in small steps of leaked info to the public, amazing announcements regarding our solar system that we are now getting, and other bits that will slowly desensitize the public to the idea of life outside of our planet. I feel we may very well be in this phase and answers will come in time, hopefully sooner than later!

The most recent news that falls in line with this trend is this article: http://www.scienceworldreport.com/a...ed-alien-civilization-around-strange-star.htm

I expect to see news like this among the new discoveries in our own solar system to be happening monthly, if not weekly. This is an amazing hypothesis and it is interesting that scientists are taking the possibility seriously, instead of dismissing it outright like we have seen in the past.

    Just read that today

It has always been mathematically impossible for Earth to be home to the only life in the Universe though

If one uses even a modicum of critical thought with regard to the sheer size of the cosmos, yes, it seems inevitable that there is other life.
I always believed religions, philosophies, knowledge systems, (however one defines them) that promote Earth-centric views are exemplary examples of hubris.

    LOL.

    miracle.jpg

Following that thinking... Another example of hubris? Making "inevitable" scientific conclusions without a shred of scientific proof. In the meantime, and certainly at the current level of technology, all the other theories are pleasant philosophical diversions and great fodder for books and movies.

See Fermi Paradox for starters. Sure it's fun to think it's a Star Trekky kinda universe out there (and who's to say it isn't) but there's at least as much conjecture that it ain't.

There's no proof of an all powerful god or an afterlife, either. When you get down it, it becomes an odds scenario. The odds are higher that there is other life out there in the universe, than not. At least, this is something that can and will be proven over time as we continue to explore the cosmos.

The Fermi Paradox, interesting reading. I have seen some of those arguments before, but not all. Thanks for information. There could be another reason why we do not yet have any proof of life elsewhere:

Perhaps after viewing our dismal chronicle of abuse to each other and our home world, maybe sentient extraterrestrial life choses to be cryptic and aloof. They have had the fear of God put into them, or perhaps we are viewed with such disdain that we are seen as worthless as a peephole in a retirement home. I can envision an array of alien beacons surrounding our solar system transmitting the message; "For the love of God, avoid this area!" :D

Finally, I’ll trot out that old scientific adage: “Absence of proof is not proof of absence.”

Although you could easily employ the selfsame adage about the existence of a creator/supreme being/ god, etc. So I’ll award you a preemptive “touché!”

Perhaps that's what really makes life interesting: pondering the imponderable.

    cheers :D
