So I ordered a zippo off ebay. Up here you have to spend like 50$ for a new one and there was no way I was paying that so I went onto ebay. Found one I liked for about 20$ish and ordered it about a week ago.

It got here today and I was super excited to check it out but when I opened it I noticed that the wind screen thing was already scratched. Annoyed I pulled it out all the way and the entire thing is pretty scratched up, the wick is all frayed (but white)....
I'm thinking they took the old guts from another lighter and threw it into a new case and kept the brand new core for themselves.

Is this how they come new or is this ebay seller trying to fuck me?

I dont think anything "new" should be scratched, unless it's made known to you.

    Sounds like you got fucked

Never bought a Zippo that wasn't flawless in and out. All of them are mirror polished, and had zero scratches of any kind, anywhere. You got boned.

I messaged the guy right after I opened it. Hopefully he isn't a piece of shit... He has like 5000 positive reviews with a 99.5% positive rate so...

Looks chewed on to me. Send an email to Zippo and ask them if that's normal for a new product these days. Methinks they'll tell you no.

That's what I figured. I'm hoping he will just give me a bit of $ back. I don't feel like dealing with shipping it back to NY and waiting I need it for camping this weekend

I just wanted to make sure zippos didn't come like that new... I highly highly highly doubted they would but I didn't want to complain over something from the factory.

    thanks guys

The insides aren't finely finished, but that looks pretty rough. Add that to the frayed wick which I have a really hard time believing it's from the factory like that, even if the lighter sat in storage for a couple years before you bought it. What's the flint screw look like, and flint/spring? What about the material inside that holds the fluid? Snow white?

The wheel looks new and the screw on the bottom is a bit rough on the edges like someone has opened it up with a screwdriver. The material inside is snow white and it seemed to hold onto the part that said "lift to fill" like it had never been opened.

The case is absolutely mint no scratches with a completely uniform surface.

They both say made in Bradford, PA with "F" and "14" on either side.

Screw should be unfuckedwith, but all of that is easily replaced, was wondering if that was the case and maybe he/she/they missed something.

But, if you're not happy with it being all scuffed up then proceed. Seller shouldn't be a cock about it.

Post another pic or two from further away and more focused?

Mail it to zippo, all lighters, lifetime warranty...they have a great museum in Bradford, lots of war damaged lighters they rebuilt or replaced

I mean honestly it's not THAT big of a deal I still saved 20+$ from buying it here but I'm annoyed that it's already beat up you know?

You can kinda see how the edges are a bit roughed up.

Looks ok to me, every time you drag the inside piece out you scratch the shit out of it every time. They are tough but will get banged up over time against your keys and change and such. $20 bucks for an actual zippo I would even blink at those scratches. P.s I have over 50 zippo a some bought brand new, most of them are yard sale finds.

If I bought used I wouldn't be worried about it at all.

What I'm annoyed about is that it was supposed to be brand new out of the box and it clearly has been used.

Fuck it then. That isn't what any of my Zippo inserts have ever looked like new.

No shit they're not fully finished like the exterior.

Enjoy the lighter, you can always hit it with some wet/dry paper and make it sparkly if you want.

No worries, I like the orange. Wish Zippo's didn't go dry so quickly, my only gripe! You'll have it for your whole life or until Zippo goes belly up, since they'll rebuild that over and over and over for you.
