Fort Worth independent School District just announced that they are closing all the schools down for a week to sanitize and what not.

there have been a couple of confirmed cases of swine flu around here.

    ...but the entire FWISD?!?!

with a population of over a half million....that's alot of schools

My wife is a teacher in Hurst and she just told me about it. She herd the days are going to be forgiven so they will not have to make them up. If that is true I guess the staff and kids get an early taste of being off before summer gets here.

I would not mind if they closed her school so she can paint the bathrooms before the weekend. Then I can go fishing.:D

i find that hard to believe.

FWISD makes them account for every little day they have off (i.e. ice days)

80,000 students are getting a second Spring Break! Seems like an over reaction or just a C.Y.A. move, but it's a no-win situation for school and public health officials. If they don't close the schools and the flu runs wild they will be crucified, if it turns out they didn't need to close they'll catch grief for that too. Erring on the side of caution, I guess...

Swine flu death toll: 150. Regular flu death toll: 13,000.

We should close all schools and businesses every flu season. I could really use the time off. :)

I agree that it might be getting a little out of poprtion. Read this quote as it is rather shocking we don't hear about this...

CDC researchers estimate that an average of 36,000 people die from complications of influenza each year, compared to a previous estimate of 20,000. Another 11,000 people per year die from RSV, which causes upper and lower respiratory tract infections, primarily in young children and older adults. Researchers believe that the aging US population and the circulation of influenza A, the most virulent strain in recent years, are among the reasons for this increase.

My son and daughter-in-law are both school teachers in the Klein ISD, they said the worst part of these breaks is trying to get the kids re-focused.

Even Biden said this morning that he would not get on a plane or public transportation till this is all cleared up...

In that case, I bet the planes are completely safe.
