mixed opinions. I know I have driven the piss out of any rental I've had. But yet my mom bought a rental Liberty and has been the best car for 8 years now.

um... how much is a new hyundai? i mean thats 38,000 miles, and i never knew hyunday to be much over 16k new but that could just be cuz i dont no the market for them. that just seems a bit high for me for that many miles on a that car. i feel like u could get a toyota car with similar miles for about the same price is all.

Yeah as far as the price goes, I'd have to work with him on that. I agree it's high.

My main concern is buying a ex-rental.

We've looked at Toyota's. But for our price range 10-13k you're looking at older Toyota's, around a 2007 or so. (at least in my area). We're wanting something 2010 or newer

I would be careful. Some people drive the heck out of rental cars so they might have problems but you might not its luck of the draw I suppose but try to let it real low.

Got my gf an old rental, 2012 corolla with 30k. It was honestly in better condition than the used ones on toyotas lot and for ~2k cheaper. I think we go it for around 14ish

Havent had any issues with it.

Think it depends what rental "class" one is buying from. The "compact" cheapest to rent category...god no stay away. Many get rented to company people who aren't really responsible for them and they drive the crap out of them. That's what we get when we travel for work and they are generally used pretty hard (ie full speed over speed bumps, that sort of stuff).

Now if it was a full size or "mid size" category car...think you could get a decent car. Seems like its generally people who don't abuse the crap out of them driving them. Of course you can still get some crappy ones but it seems like the percentage of crappy vs good condition ones is much higher on the good side.

As someone who's been in a rental car that caught a good bit of air over railroad tracks: I'd pass.

Price, warranty, service records? I don't and I don't think everybody abuses rental cars but I would say overall a rental car hasn't been taken cared of like a private vehicle. Plus most of the rental cars I get in stink for some reason. I think it is people smoking in them and the rental place trying to mask the odor with some awful smelling scent.

I have personally drove the $hit out of rental cars in my day. I have even broken one pretty bad to when I turned it in you couldn't turn it without hearing (crack crack crack clack clack clack). Pulling that E brake hard on every turn etc. I just think what I have done to them and could never purchase one myself.

I was always told that rental car companies don't really keep up on maintenance on their vehicles. They keep them clean, but if the oil goes 10k between changes it's no big deal. Making money with the vehicle is more important to them then taking it out of service for a few hours for maintenance.

I'm not sure how much truth that holds, but it makes sense to me.

Last rental I had was a 2014 Frontier. It had about 5000 miles on it and was a bear to get in and out of 4 HI and would result in a big bang every time. I doubt most Frontiers do that...some abuse must have happened.
