what do you do?

when your dog growls and trys to bite you

 

I have a cat, and when it does that, I smack it with a rolled up newspaper.

 

how hard do you hit him with that newspaper?

 

Pretty fooking hard. I'd say enough to ring the bell at the county fair.

my old dog bit my ankle once cause the spastic bastard was territorial about his food, i slapped him across the face out of reaction and he got all freaked out and sad. why did he/she growl? was it for no reason?how long have you had him/her? how old is he/she if it was for no reason id be worried

 

Definitely learned his lesson...

 

More info would help, such as asked above. Also what breed is your dog? My rule of thumb is if a dog tries to bite a person it gets hit. Unless a puppy.

Just based on what you have stated I would smack the shit out of it. That is if it was going to bite me as opposed to snapping at me. If just snapping a good whack.
I have raised a few different breeds they all require different amounts of force.
Boston Terriers take a slight whack, they are sensitive.
Pit Bulls also a light whack as they are also sensitive. Not physically but mentally. Prefer to use a stern voice for them.

Using a news paper is good but when you carry it around they are timid, it causes them to act un-naturally.

 

My grandmother had an "ankle biting" Shi-tsu and when he got outta line She'd hand me a yard stick and say: "Whack that damn dog good with this!" Ha ha, I don't know if the funnest part was hearing her say that, or if it was me getting a chance to whack the damn dog! LOL

 

If it's a puppy whenever it bites you, stick your thumb back in their mouth and hold on their teeth... They;ll hate it and learn real quick not to bite the hand that feeds them.

 

My dog disobeys me, I smack the shit outta it and it hides in a corner for a bit and then comes back later with it's tail down and its sad puppy eyes begging for forgiveness...so I forgive and life goes on.
Definitely smack the shit outta yo dog! I never tolerate that behavior.

 

I say no and give them a firm (but not too hard) tap on the back right where the tail starts.

I don't own a dog, but that guy is amazing when controlling dogs. Might give you some ideas....

 

Dogs are pack animals. There always have to be a 'leader'. Dogs 'play-fight' as puppies to establish the order of the pack. Some dogs are what they call Alpha Dogs. These dogs are agressive when trying to establish themselves. They need extra firm attention to estasbish you as the leader.

Hitting a dog is never the answer. Put them on thier backs and pin thier paws down, not to hard to hurt them. This is what the mother does to let the pups know who is the boss. Again, never hit a dog. Especially in the face. If anything, a rap on the butt with the paper.

 

I don't have a dog but my uncle does and he kennels his dog to dicpline her. That seems to work.
