Remote controlled thermostats possible in California

California is considering a proposal by the Energy Commision to mandate remote controlled thermostats in California homes & businesses. It would give power companies the ability to adjust the thermostat of a business or home up or down remotely to control peak energy demand.

that sounds like too much more big brother crap to me. "we have a lot of people here that will be using at this time, so i'm either gonna turn off ur heat so u can freeze or turn off the a/c so ur balls explode from the heat!!" sounds to me like they're trying to use it as a front to save more electricity, but if they turn down everyones heat for X amount of time, then when they turn it back up to where it should be, there's gonna be a greater consumption to get the temps back up.

EDIT: and it sounds like another thing for people to try to hack into and screw w/ other people just b/c they're dicks.
