so what are they planning on doing to alleviate the problem? remove the driver floor mat, thats it? or are they going to make different floor mats and r&r them?

maybe they will cut the driver's floor out so there is a big hole under the pedals or better yet the floor will rot like the frame soon enough. :)

How on earth can a problem with a FLOOR MAT end up being dangerous enough to recall cars over. That's ridiculous. If they're bad, take em out.

Edit - it sticks the gas pedal down? How hard does one have to ram it into the floor to cause that. Wacky.

Here is what I'm thinking.... If we HAVE to take out the floor mats due to possibility of a stuck accelerator, wouldn't we destroy the carpet and such with mud/rain and such?

That said, wouldn't this entitle us to free carpet at some point?

Since you are so quick to point out this is a repost, can you provide a link to the previously posted thread?

My search of "floor mat + recall" returned no results.

I did not see it the first time around. So to me, this is NOT a repost.

A family of 4 in California all died when the accelerator got stuck under the floor mat as they were approaching an intersection. They driver, an off-duty police officer, called 911 right before the accident. He was mashing in the brakes but couldn't stop the accelerating car.

I wish they wouldn't have but they played his call on Good Morning America a couple weeks ago. It was chilling. He says "the accelerator is stuck and we're going to crash. Oh god, pray for us" before the call goes dead. I haven't been able to get the call out of my mind.

    Listen to the call here:

They hit another car, rolled off the road and burst into flames. All four perished. They were driving a loaned Lexus.

It's a recall of the mats, not the entire vehicle.

I would think it has to do with the mat getting caught on the accelerator and keeping it pushed in some. So the solution is new accelerator pedal with more room between the pedal and the mat, so as not to catch on anything.

wow that 911 call...i can't even imagine being in that position. Really sucks.

I'm just wondering why he didn't pop it into neutral though? or reach down and move the floor mat? I had rubber mats in my old jetta, they got stuck with the pedal down once but i was able to reach down and move the mat backwards.

Wow.. I heard about the crash on the news but this was my first time listening to the 911 call. Man, that literally gave me chills. That REALLY sucks. RIP to all of them...

Aside from that, i don't have anything but my Chargers floor mats.. I wonder if they'll give me some if i say i threw out the all weather mats because of the recall.:D

My accelerator was stuck once on a automatic mustang after washing the engine. I was going to hit a wall at about 10mph but i changed it into Neutral and it stopped.
