    Bear attack 2009

Apparently a grizzly bear attacked his plane while parked in a remote field up here in Alaska. The owner had not cleaned out the inside after a long fishing trip and the bear smelled it.

He had 2 new tires, 3 cases of Duct Tape and several rolls of cellophane delivered. He then went about repairing the plane so he could fly it home.

Gutsy, to say the least. Or stupid. Makes one hell of an ad for duct tape.

Alaska is definitely one state where the second amendment right takes on a more literal meaning: You literally need to protect yourself against bears, moose, and other critters.

Well, believe it or not duct tape was originally made to repair airplanes in WW2. It was used to repair small holes in the skin. It worked because it was tested for speeds up to 200 MPH.

I think it's hilarious how the guy even wrote the Airplane numbers on the duct tape with what looks like permanent marker.

If i were him, you better bet i would have also had a parachute delivered along with that duct tape.

mythbusters just did an entire episode on duck tape... and it was fricken awesome!

they made a sail boat out of duck tape and sailed it around sanfransisco harbor.

they also made a cannon out of duck tape and it worked !

i have no doubt that the repairs to this plane would work for a while.

check out that episode if you can.

    EDIT:
here are some clips from that episode:

I have a friend who hunts regularly in Alaska, and he tells me that the bears will chew on anything made from petroleum products--including rubber! That's probably why the tires were attacked. My friend tells me that the skin of the plane was not metal but made from tight waterproof weave, or fiberglass.
