Finally...the reason I bought the taco

I bought the taco so I could get/pull a boat. The boys and I are tired of fishing from the bank. I couldn't decide if I wanted to buy a new or used boat. I just happened to see this boat for sale on my way to the lake last weekend. It's fairly old but someone took really good care of it. I can't wait for this weekend. It better not rain.

It's got an Evinrude 40 2-cycle, trolling motor, and 2 fish finders. I have a lot of manuals to read. This is why I haven't been on here for a couple days. I am so far behind on TacomaWorld posts. I tried to read up a bit this evening on "the meet". Sounds like a great time was had by all.

The truck handles it like its not even there. The boat, fully loaded, probably only weighs about 1500 pounds so it is no problem.

Congrats! Being aluminum it should be fine. Only thing to really wear is the upholstery, engine and electronics. My grandfather's got aluminum row boat and canoe older than me. Both still in great condition. So unless it's got obvious dents it should be fine. Hell, even then the dents can be knocked out and re-revitted if needed. My grandfather fixed canoe that had be backed into once. They last forever!

Okay, I could not afford a boat (savin money for a home), but I bought a ball hitch anyway. We can all dream right?

Almost thought you stole my boat for a second. Bought this '92 Fisher with a '98 60HP merc about 4 years ago for less than $6K. Awesome fishing boat and comparable to your Tracker. Mine only has 16in of draft so it can go pretty much anywhere. The boat weighs 990# or so but not sure how much the trailer weighs. Trucks pulls it fine. Actually, the last time we went on a trip it got 18MPG pulling down the highway.

Thanks everyone! I've been doing some minor repairs to get it in tip-top shape the last couple days. Replaced a couple switches and the cig accessory plug. Had to go all over town to find a spare tire for it. Back in 93 they used a different method for specifying tire and wheel size (B78x13). Few places understand this method any more. I finally found one at Tractor Supply Co of all places. Can't wait until this weekend to take it out...

Yes FlyCatcher, at first glance our boats do look very similar. The Bass Tracker boat only weighs like 1050 pounds and does not sit very deep in the water either. I looked at a couple Fisher's but they weren't in nearly as good of condition.

The only thing on the boat that doesn't work is the speedometer. From what I have found on the Internet it is a pretty common problem. Does anyone know what the problem may be? How does a boat speedo work? There is a white plastic piece that sticks out the back of the boat but for the life of me I can't figure out how it works.

the plastic piece, or fin as i call it, pivots while you are in the water, and it has basically a hose that goes to the speedo. check around it and the hose.....may be blocked up or something, and i think the only time the speedo will work is when you are running the boat in the lake, cant read it if just running on the hose. hopefully the tube is just blocked up a bit.

i've never been on a boat with a working speedo. personally i dont see the point, there are no speed limits on the water, so who cares how fast your going? i just put the hammer down and tear ass around the lake

I agree nd. That's why I haven't messed with it yet. It just kinda bothers me that something on the boat doesn't work.
