My baby boy is going to be 7 weeks on tues and he still doesn't really sleep. He sleeps in 2 hour incurements and I am only getting like 4 hours of sleep a night.

Questions to all the new parents..
How many hours are you getting and how old are your children!?!?

Does anyone have any suggestions to help the baby sleep longer!?!?

it will spread out a bit, go to 3 hours, 4 hours of sleep.

trying keeping as constant bedtime, feed before baby goes to bed, and by the time you go to be, he/she may be ready to go again.

my 2.5 yr son goes to bed around 730 every night, and wakes up around 630 am. he has had an initial bedtime of 7-730 since we brought him home. kids need routine.

yes routines for sure, have a 1 yr old, went threw same thing, but it will increase to longer sleeps, but you need the routine, my little girl for the past 7 months, goes to bed at 7 wakes up at 6am. as they get older they will cry more, so u have to be strong and ignore there crys, but for 7 weeks old, just pick a time, and do it every night, should work out for you

Kids will always go through stages. Right now your little one is probably in a very bad sleep stage. Don't worry it will pass. My little ones are 6 and 3. They sleep from about 8:30-6am now....but still sometimes my 3 year old will go through a bad week of not sleeping due to illness or allergies or something..

It's a roll of the dice my friend. Kids are completely random. The only pattern, is there is no patterns. Our first kid was pretty decent for sleeping thru the night within a couple months after being born. My second kid had other ideas. You're basically on 'their' plan now....and you simply have to adjust to it. I feel your pain on the sleep thing, but you'll soon develop ways of recovering the needed rest.

    Good luck.

My Son is 7 months old. He didn't start sleeping consistently throughout the night until he was about 3 months. Since that time he sleeps fairly well from 8/8:30 to 5/6AM. But about once or twice a night the wife or I have to get up and change his position and pat him a bit to get him back to sleep.

There was a one or two week period at about 6 months where he wanted to eat at 2 or 3 am for some reason.

Of course, once you kid starts teething, plan on averaging two to three hours of sleep a night. :(
    *edit*
When the teething starts, get teething tablets and a frozen washcloth. It has worked wonders on my boy.

Don't shoot me here.... give him some cereal at bed time. When my older son was 3 weeks old he ate constantly and you couldn't fill him up. I know all about the no food until 6 months deal - but he NEEDED more than he was getting from milk. Once he started getting cereal, he'd sleep most of the night and not be as starving during the day. He grew fine, was plump as most babies are, but he wasn't fat.

My other son go no food until he was 5+ months old and he was content on just milk.

a little trick that works when he gets a bit older, put about 6 binkies around him when you put him down, when he starts to fuss, he will find his own.

around 7 or 8 months, cut them back a litttle, and you will be able to get him/her off the binkies early

is a binkie the soother, might want to avoid that. we started off with one, but realized, our little one would lose it then fuss to find it. We completely removed the soother at 3 months ( never used again and she is 1) , and then for the first week she would cry we would go in her room and just tell her she was ok, and sit right by her crib. and she would fall alseep, it was rough the first week, then we moved the chair and just stood by her door doing the same thing, after like 10 days she was sleeping thru the night. every parent has there ups and downs, and different methods. We nursed our little girl, and the beginning was tough as it doesn't fill there tummys as much as formula. hopefully you find a method. good luck, i will be doing it all over agin in 4 1/2 months

We got our boy on a schedule, he sleeps from 7 until about 6:30. He is 14 mo. now and has been doing this since he was about 3 mo old. We never vary his sleep schedule, we are very strict with this schedule, I have turned down some pretty good parties to get him home to bed.
The first 3 mo is hard, make sure you talk with your wife ALOT, set up a sleep schedule with your wife and switch on who gets up when, and by all means, sleep when the baby sleeps.
