Hit a deer today

I hit a deer today while driving east bound on I-66 towards DC. I slammed on my brakes when I saw it and tried switching lanes but there were cars next to me on both sides. I feel really upset. I don't care too much about the damage to my truck, I feel bad for the deer. She didn't die, the accident ended up breaking one of her hind legs and she managed to drag herself back into the woods. The state trooper didn't feel like chasing her so he could put her out off her pain. I haven't been able to get her off my mind. I feel horrible.

Sorry to hear about that. It is a bad situation.

 

One hit me in November, pushed in my driver side door, so bad I had to replace the door. She didn't die until the cop shot her. Sucks, they were around before roads, you would think they would get used to the roads and not walk in them as carelessly as they do. Idk man sucks for the deer but the accident could have been much worse.

 

You think I'll be that much? My insurance company is USAA. They're pretty good about handling claims. I called them up today and reported the accident. I guess I'll post what I'm told when I take it for the estimate and stuff.

 

man glad ur ok! i actually caught one on my crotch rocket a year ago goin 70 mph! the deer died, i broke my toe and my bike's front end was trashed... it just sux, its such a common thing where i live... all the time it sux

 

I hit a deer a while back, the dang thing went sliding across the road and got ran over by a car then proceeded to slide into the brush, i could care less about the deer

 

a couple winters ago i was driving down the highway and a deer jumped up out of the ditch almost landed in my bed and just skimmed down my rear quarter panel luckily no damage was done to my truck or the deer

 

If you have a large deductible and minor damage it's best to just fix the problem yourself. I hit a deer with my old '80 pickup once -- it broke some plastic and a light lens, all of which I could glue back together or replace for little cost. The deer had a broken leg so I killed it, slapped a tag on it, and took it home and ate it.
