My dog is being put down friday

My dog Paddy. We got her on Saint Patrick's Day of 1995. I like the name Paddy better instead of Patty so that is how she got her name. Also my name is Nick so that small childhood phrase, Nick nack, paddy wack, give the dog a bone also gave me the idea for the name. I was born in 1991 so since I was 4 I have had her. She has been in every memory I have from early childhood to 18 years old. She will be 14 when she is put down.

She is fat, ugly, can't walk, dumb as a box of rocks but I wouldn't have wanted her any other way.

Here are some pics. When I have talked about her on the forum I have just called her Molly's twin. Some of the older forum members will recognize why.

Earliest pic I can find is 5th grade for me so she would have been 6 I guess.

ah dude im SO sorry we had to do the same last year.. had to take some days off work.. its coo to feel sad - thats a family member! Sorry bud. Get some pictures of you and doggie together. you'll thank yourself

sorry to hear brother. its always hard to lose a pet. keep your head high man. she is in a better place, she wont be hurting anymore. I dread the day I have to put my dogs down.


Here is a poem one of the members here gave me when I put my cat down last month. It helped me out a lot.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

That's a downer man- but you know it's good for her. And it looks and sounds like you two have had a GREAT run!!

Thanks everyone those poems are great.

The thing my parents did that I loved was that they took a picture of paddy and I every year before the first day of school every year since I got year and then my last day of school my senior year. It's a great way to remember them.

 

Man i can feel this, my uncle had to put his dog down about three years ago and i thought i would never be right again, which i is why i can feel this down to the heart and the fact that i will have to do that to my dogs soon too, sorry man your in my prayers take as many pictures as you can

On August 5th, my "Rebel" will be gone 1 year, I'm dreading the day, it will be hard. But he gave me 14 wonderful years, he walked me to my truck door every morning and was waiting for me every evening when I got home! He also watched out for my wife and daughter when I was not at home. I still think of my friend everyday. Take it from someone who knows, get a new puppy ASAP! He will help fill the void in your heart!

 

So very sorry Nick, She does look like she could be Molly's twin. I have had to do the same with two dogs and two cats, very hard to do. I do believe you will be together with your pets again in Heaven.
