picked this 80 shortbed up today. been looking for one of these for a long time. used to live in maine and I couldn't even find a bad one, so as soon as I got to texas I started looking. bodies banged up but the frame and running gear are mint! 75k miles. its been a deer hunting truck for a long time. as soon as I get a chance the brush guard and rear bumper thing are going. then i'm going to start working on making it reliableIMG_20130811_182242.jpg

God I love old, banged up Toys still being used and rebuilt. Most of the ones in my neck of the woods were shipped south to be used by drug lords long ago.

truck came with a spool and a seal kit for the front diff. a friend told me I wouldn't like it cuz it would steer funny going down the road. I thought if my hubs were unlocked that I wouldn't notice a difference. any insite?

If the hubs are unlocked you won't be able to tell. When you lock the hubs the wheels will be more difficult to turn.

thanks max 4. didn't do anything worthy of pics today. new plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor. and keep gutting and scrubbing interior. the smell of mouse shit is a bit much. plan on pulling the bed this weekend. want to paint frame and start sanding on the bed.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
i once welded mine... yes driving on the road with the hubs unlocked will be normal, but man is it a PITA offroad all the time and only helps sometimes. if its not selectable, or at least detroit/some fasion of partial locker i would never do it in the front again

a few pics of what I've been doing. gave it the rustoleum od green rattle can job. started putting the interior back together. gotta head to the pick and pull soon to get a seat and hopefully some doors. oh yeah and an ignition switch so I don't have to start it with a screwdriver. anybody know what size to make pics so they aren't tiny?

a few random pics. resealed front axle, got some 4runner seats, changed all fluids, and gave it the krylon touch. herculined the inside of the body and been fixing mouse chewed wires like nobodies business. got a new windshield seal coming and a weber is high on the list. cant find a set of doors to save my life :frusty:.

well that is the easy way to lift the bed! :)

doors, yea they are getting pretty few and far between these days. I dont have any good ones at the moment myself. The last good set i had that werent on a truck, an IDIOT friend of mine cut to get the window regulators out.. worst part was he was going for the regulators for his 84-88 DOH!!

what wires are chewed? i have a few harness laying around, but its probably easier to fix the one thats there than piece one together since the ones i have left are all odds and ends (some whole harness but no info) i save them for patching up my old trucks. I sold all of the good ones with all the info, and since toyota decided they would change everything every few years unless you know specifically which harness it is or have a pile of them to compare you end up changing plugs etc.
