A buddy runs dual fuel and drives his to and from the trail.. Just get a nice dd and leave the pickup alone. Just my opinion. The stock 22r with the stock asin works just fine for me.

I wanna drive more than to and from the trail though..

I enjoy DD'ing this thing, though I do need a second car just so I can afford to have it apart longer than a weekend.. I don't ever plan to spend the money for a tow rig and trailer to haul this truck around.. It'll either stay streetable or I'll sell it and build an F-Toy that I will then spend the money to tow around. This truck is too nice to take beyond the driveable point. I'll return it to stock and sell it before I turn it into a raisin or tube buggy.

I really like tube beds though, but don't know if I wanna do that just anytime soon but it's a possibility.

I don't know what you have against trailering.. Just because I trailer mine doesn't make it not streetable. I still drive mine around town all the time, drive it to work, and drive it to Uwharrie every now and then. I trailer because of the peace of mind it provides knowing I can run the shit out of it and know I still have a way home if I break. Also, the places I want to wheel are farther than I want to drive it. I'm 6'2" and I don't want to be stuffed in a regular cab truck for hours. Another thing is trailering means my iroks will last the life of the truck as long as I don't cut one. I'd rather not have to spend $1300+ on tires every 2 years...

It's not that I'm against trailering it. Under some circumstances, very few, I would trailer it.

BUT... I'm not trying to build a crazy rock crawler/trail rig like you are. If I wanted that, I would have something a lot more beat up that I didn't care about and bought something to pull it with.

I like old Toyotas, I want to drive old Toyotas. Period. I can afford a payment on a newer nicer truck, but it's just not what I want so I'm not going to put myself into that. If you gave me 50k to buy a truck with I'd buy several old LandCruisers, Pickups, & 4runners way before I'd dumb it into a new truck.

Part of the adventure and fun of wheeling all over the place is driving to and from the trail. To hop in my old Toyota Pickup truck, pump that pedal twice, crank it, & take off. It's euphoric & I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ultimately this is what I want:

    Lots...see build
Very well said! Fits my thoughts exactly, too. Build it enough to make it pretty capable and otherwise just enjoy the crap out of it!

    Thanks man!

I wish my truck had been in the family like yours! But I am the 3rd documented owner and I have a bunch of service records on it so it's alright. Just not near as cool as having a baby picture with it.

I plan to really travel out of this rig in a few years. I wanna take off out west and explore Colorado & Utah and up into Idaho, Montana, Oregon, & Washington. And eventually make it out to the Rubicon Trail. Ideally I'd like to take the Trans-American Trail, but it'll probably take a few trips for all of that to happen. Luckily my GF, who will be my wife by then, likes adventure as much as I do.

    I need to update..

In the middle of collecting parts to rebuild the front axle and upgrade to IFS hubs, Tacoma rotors, V6 calipers. I'll have all new wheel bearings, seals, trunnions, all the felts, etc. (The only thing I don't have is the V6 calipers)

About to swap an IFS rear axle in.. Doing a disk brake conversion on it with SFA Rotors & Calipers. (Need pretty much everything for this., but already have the rear axle painted & everything).

Also going to a 1" bore master cylinder. (Need)

Diff armor & axle truss. (Have)

I have had high steer for a month or so & it will also get put on during all this. Along with a sky high clearance front hanger & a different RUF pack. (have)

Hope to have all this done before January is over so I can get gears & lockers in before tax returns and buy tires with my tax return.

As y'all know by now, I'm terrible with taking pictures, but i'll see what I can do.

Sorry its blurry, but this is how much to grind down when fitting Tacoma rotors to IFS hubs..

    Gonna get new wheel studs also;

If you look closely in the background of the last pic, you can see the rear axle of my brothers '94 Pickup.. We're doing a SAS and motor rebuild.. Got the bed off and the rear axle out & the gas tank. Going to a fuel cell w/ Chevy 63's for the suspension.. Cleaning & painting the frame.. Also doing all the body work and we're gonna repaint it green. His truck should be pretty sweet when we're done :)

    And for giggles:

THAT is a bent valve. I had to do a rebuild on a Chevy Aveo after a lady let her timing belt go too long.

Well the passenger side wheel cylinder and the clutch master cylinder both decided to crap out yesterday.. :annoyed:

Got the rear drum apart & let me tell you.. I AM SO READY TO HAVE REAR DISKS!!!!!!

I'm actually gonna order the kit this weekend along with a 1" bore brake master cylinder and buy the V6 calipers for the front.. That should be everything I need to do the IFS hub swap & IFS rear axle swap w/ disks..

All my trunnion bearing and wheel bearing came in Tuesday..

Got a whole pile of parts waiting to be put on.. Just got to find the motivation to get them all on! Got a few wheeling trips coming up soon so maybe that'll do it for me!

Love that old body style! would live to build one as a crawling rig with small block power!

TIG'd this on the IFS rear today.. new bearings/seals are on their way, then it's installing the rear disks that I already have..

I really need to do a big update because I have ALOT more going on than an IFS rear and disk brakes.. maybe one day.
