i have a 95.5 tacoma 3.4 i bought the truck from a close friend that bought it new. i know the history of the truck, he had issues with a pulley on the timing belt after he had toyota replace the belt. second time around they replaced pulleys and belt. after that the truck did not go as well it still has decent power but not like it had before. my guess is that they got the timing belt off by one tooth so the timing is just a little retarded. i plan to replace the belt in the next couple weeks my question is has any one ever tried to advance the timing by one tooth just to see if it makes anymore power? i know i have done a few belts and if you get them off by a tooth retarded there is a diffrence in power.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I honestly don't think it would run being one tooth off.

    James,
Probably just let one of the cams slip a tooth when installing the belt. I would not try to advance it. Just line up all the dots on the cams, crank, and intermediate shafts with their respective match marks. Should run perfect then. :D

i will be tearing into it soon and will post what i have found out. they will run if it is off a tooth when i did my old 89 3.0 i completely assembled it started it backed it out of the garage drove it from my house down the hill to the main road before i noticed the loss in power. the return trip was frustrating just the thought of tearing it all apart again. since then i have learned to be more cautious when reassembling.
