Stupid Question

Okay so I know this is a really beginner question but i'm new here and just got my first truck (a '96 Tacoma manual with the 2.4L) and have heard a lot of hype about synthetic oil... What are the advantages/disadvantages of synthetic vs natural oil?

 

it lasts longer because it does not break down as quickly as conventional oil. The trade off is it is a lot more expensive.

Using synthetics is a heated debate with those who use it, why they use it, when they change it and those who don't and why. It's a topic that goes on forever!!
