The thing with the URD Maf Calibrator is it doesn't really change anything until you're above 3,000RPM. If you want to save gas, you'll stay below that mark as much as possible so that won't benefit you much either.

Best mod I've found for mpg increase was an AFE Pro Dry drop in filter. I haven't touched the exhaust yet since I don't want anything that sounds like crap. Intakes are $200-$400 so they aren't worth it either, IMO.

I have the TB spacer. Bought it week I got the truck thinking it would would help too, but I doubt it. Probably should've waited until the try had at least 5,000 miles on it was broken in some, but I didn't. And I'm too lazy to take it off to see if I notice a difference.

Throttle Body Spacers work great on a Carbed motor. They do nothing for an injected motor (unless its the old style Chevy MPI) except make a wistle. The injectors on the Toyotas ( and many other makers ) inject the fuel into the combustion chamber at the intake valves. As the Air and Fuel enter the combustion chamber thru the intake valves, they begin to swirl as the valves are on one side of the combustion chamber. The set up is engineered to work with a smooth flow of air comming into the valves, hence the long intake runners. Any affect a Throttle spacer has on the air going thru the MAF is canceled out as the air travles thru the intake runners. Keep in mind that Auto manufactures have toyed with some pretty ecentric thinking when designing these motors. If a $5.00 peice of aluminum would give a free m.p.g. or two, it would be standard equipment. :)

I agree with you mostly, however a $50 (retail) air filter just gave me 2-3mpg improvement so..... :D (And it's reusable so it'll cut down on natural resources being used, less landfill, etc....)

I have dynoed many throttle body spacers. They DO NOT add any h.p. Most of the drop in filters dont give any h.p. either. We did one test with 2 throttle body spacers, a helix throttly thing, a K & N filter, and a Magnet on the fuel line. That run showed a .6 h.p.

LMAO! I did a test with an Airaid cold air intake on my Dodge. They said it would give a 20 h.p. gain. I did a baseline run, went to Airaid to have them install their "super intake", went back to the shop and did 2 pulls. The 2 runs showed a solid 3 h.p. gain. I went back to Airaid with the printout and they refunded my money. :D

i recently got rid of my twelve second chevy silverado due to excessive amounts of speeding tickets and purchased an 07 4x4 tacoma and was wondering what kind of bolt-ons could i slap on it. i was thinking about a k&n, full exhaust, and some kind of tuning and was wondering what tuner was good and dependable, with my chevy i would plug the laptop and custom tune it is that what the maf cal does, or should i just get the power programmer. any suggestions as to which tuner would be best would be greatly appreciated.

You can't program a Toyota like a domestic. You can do the MAF calibrator if you have a wide band and couple other things I think, but it's only useful above 3,000 RPM. So it's not beneficial all the time.

You can do an AFE Pro Dry filter that won't need to be oil and remove secondary air filter in place of a CAI. Or you can do a TRD or URD supercharger, long tube heads, Y-pipe, full exhaust....

But really, if you got a different vehicle to cut down speeding tickets why put yourself in the same situation again? If you have the V6 it's already powerful enough to get you into trouble.

Really-like Pierce said so well, why would you want to repeat the same nightmare you had w/ that superfast GM??? Since you claim to have gotten rid of it rather than using discipline in your driving behavior, my suggestion to you would be to put your new truck in proper perspective...it's time to change the mind. For what it is, your Tacoma provides you with ample power compareable to a smallblock V8, it hauls lots of stuff, it tows lots of stuff, it plays well offroad, it looks WAY cooler than 90% of the trucks out there, people are JEALOUS of it because they didn't drop mad cash for one like you did-all that AND it hands you back pretty damm good gas mileage for a big truck! The Toyota engineers struck a nice balance between the engine and intake/exhaust providing you with nice power and sound. Bottom line to my soapbox is-the Tacoma is so well done that you have to really be careful how much you add to it lest you start detracting from it:)

On afe site they have a spacer that they dyno with a stage 2 cai and aftermarket exhaust giving the tacoma a 6hp gain from the spacer.
