Woot!!! Just got a flowmaster original 40 S put in!

Oh man what a difference it makes!

Now I know stats wise it most likely isn't giving me any more gain in HP but with the sweet powerful low growl it is giving out it is very deceiving to the brain lol. I'll admit I was kind of worried about it droning in the cab but it really is very mellow when you are cruising down the highway. I know some have posted here that they thought it was a bit annoying around 2k but for mine its loudest point is between 1.5k - 2.5k but only on acceleration.

Now I'm not going to take anything away from any of the other exhausts such as magnaflow ect. I think its more like "to each his own" and thats the beauty of having such a wide verity to chose from. Some like the racy and sporty sounds over a deep rumble like a Harley. Kind of like a music, some like a heavy bass tone on a song while others my not. I know a friend would hate me forever and dis-own me if I forced heavy rock music on them if all they loved was country LOL.

Anyways, I better stop before I start babbling to much, but for me the flow-master original 40s Give me..

A low and mellow growl when idle.
A powerful growl on acceleration.
A very mild tone on cruse.
So for me I guess its perfect for the sound I was looking for and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for this sound on this truck.

I really hope have some pics and maybe a video clip of how it sounds on my Taco. I just gotta sneak my wife's digital from her which is a very challenging task because its as much her toy as my Taco is so she is very protective over it LOL.

Well, I guess my next project is to get a good in-take put in... heh, back to the research drawing board for me it seems

What all do I need to buy for the 40? Just the muffler and let somebody install it? I was listening to some sound clips on youtube and have decided I must have it.

New gif image: this thread is useless without sound clips/videos

Just kidding. I have heard them before they are sweet. They might be a bit too loud for me though...

nah bro......all you need is the muffler, especially if you are gonna get an exhaust shop to weld it in for you.

if doing it yourself......get the correct diameter in/out on the muffler and mayber a connector pipe/sleeve, and clamps.

here is a soundclip from my truck with the 4.0 and the 40 series.........

Sounds good Will!

All I want is the muffler. I don't have to change my pipes do I? I want it all to look stock but to sound like the 40. Sleeper FTW

Hey 05tacoTRD, Sorry about that but I just now was able to get on-line but I'm glad tacomaman06 was able to answer your question.

It's pretty much exactly what he said. All I did was go to AdvancedAutoParts and buy the muffler (Flowmaster Original 40 series single in/single out 2.50). Then I headed over to Midas where the cut out the original factory and welded in the Flowmaster to the factory exhaust pipes. They did however add a extension pipe to the back pipe so that my tailpipe and tip would fit in the same place it was previously .And that was only because the Flowmaster is much shorter in length then the factory muffler.

Hey tacomaman06, didn't you have a one in/two out set up at one point?

yeah man......i had a single in/dual out setup, with the pipes coming straight out the back. reason i went back to a single in/out is basically because the place i got the dual setup done got super lazy on my exhaust and made it to where the spare tire had to be removed..........as they said they couldnt run the exhaust with duals and make it fit with the spare under there. got tired of it riding in the bed.......so thats why i got the single now.

just so everyone knows though.........the duals CAN be done with the spare there............that crap place i went to first was lazy and lied about it. so......i'll never go there again!!

Thats cool man. Hey I was wondering if you noticed any loss of back pressure on that set up. I was considering that single in/dual out but I wasn't 100% for sure it does, or doesn't loss any so I was what the heck with it and just went single in/single out to save any heartache, and hassle of getting it all set up.
