k and n air intake

K&N makes a model 63 air intake for the 2.7L tacoma. i was wondering if it produces as much power as they say it does. also combined with a gibson exhaust how much more hp would i possibly be getting?

I have the 77 series on my 4.0L with a borla cat back exhaust. With those combined I have atleast gained 15 or more hp and more mpg's, I have not put my taco on a dyno but u can definetly feel there's more power.

I really doubt it. You may have gained 8 MAX. You are not going to get the gains they advertise on a box. Read the fine print. If it says "peak", that could mean that they get 10 more h.p. at 2500 rpm over stock. Some quoted gains are with a MAF programmer used along with the advertised item. Its tough to get BIG gains out of a modern N/A engine with simple bolt ons.

no i did not read the box i went to a specialist who does that stuff and he even said that with the exhaust and the cold air intake i probably gain around 15 hp, i am trying to find a place that has a dyno so i can see how much hp i have

I have this one on my 4.0L.While it does add a kick in the shorts when the peddle is down, there are others.More research here would payoff in the long run. You've already found the best place to gather info.( TW )

I had a 2001 monte carlo before my tacoma. I put a K&N filter in and I actually lost 4mpg I believe it was. I don't plan on getting one for the tacoma what so ever.

i'd stay away from an intake. they only produce more power in the upper rpm's, and with an intake and exhaust.....you potentially lose low end torque. for the 2.7 motor, i'd remove the secondary air filter and install an afe pro dry s filter......in place of the factory filter. with that setup, you'll see better gains than with a cai.

if you ask one of them, they'll probably give you some bogus story. its only there for emissions anyway. you can pop off the rivets to keep it in ok shape if ever need to put it back it........pretty simple.
