Seems like a lot of people here didn't get a washer. That can't be a mistake.

I have no washer and I looked back to threads from 2005 and no thread I read had a washer installed. I'll e-mail Kurt and ask so we can put this issue to bed. Kurt's instructions do not show a washer. I have yet to suck in any water to my snorkel and I have driven through many a monsoon since installing it (had it off a couple weeks ago for spark plug change).

Something massive ripped off his air ram while pulling the snorkel into the A pillar denting the piss out of it....and our a-pillars are a very long and expensive to fix. It's not like a FJ where you can buy one for $30 and snap it on.

You'll never see me do it, but if you wanna spray water in it "like a pressure washer"...um....go ahead. No Don't do it.....I'm kidding

I never took my truck to a car wash before my snorkel so I'm biased anyway.

Seems like air would be shooting out of those slots, carrying water with it?

If wind can blow rain sideways I can see the air rushing out of those slots carrying water with it. I'm not saying that's how it works... just a thought.

Did you get a 2 piece air ram - the one with removable grill?

Jordon got a 2 pc grill and all the parts your talking about.

My snorkel was shipped with Joe's and Craig's and we didn't get any of that shit. Kurt had all of ours packed in 1 box and I am assuming he removed that hardware cause it wasn't needed for our model :notsure:

Just check with an FJ guy and see what they are running.....

 We were talking and I told him you were bringing up the washer issue so then we started talking about him almost hydro locking his motor with his POS URD intake. Then something came up about some bro tard getting you banned. IDK....I missed the last banning.

I did not get the washer either and anyone know the diameter of the opening in the washer? It would seem to me that it would restrict the hell out of the air flow?

I have been through a few rains already and snow with it on, checked the filter when I got home and bone dry so I don't know why you would need it really.

I'm going to update the OP but whoever has the washer installed REMOVE IT ASAP

    From Kurt:

Hello Boyd, its not required and not recommended for use on the gasoline
Tacoma. That part is remnant of the diesel applications that these
snorkels were intended for. It only appears in some of the kits because
Safari Snorkel has two different applications for the same snorkel body,
the only difference being the parts kit which (such as the washer) that
isn't even utilized in our installs. There isn't a single US spec snorkel
application that utilizes that washer and thus we too recommend it not be used.
Hope that helps. Our recommended installation procedure is still that of the instructions found on our website here:
    http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/tech_2ndgenTaco_snorkel.html

Hope that clears things up, thanks!

Well that explains it! Thanks for clearing that up. I wonder why on diesels?

So I'm brand new to this form thing, hope I'm doing it right.
Just bought a Safari Snorkel Kit for my 2011 Taco with 1250 miles on it. This is my first new auto. My question is does anyone who installed one wish they hadn't, and why? Also any tips for a newbie so I don't royally screw this up. I don't want strange vibrations, water getting into places it shouldn't (along the windshield) voiding the factory warranty....
