Thumbs up K & N

Well, I did it. The mod went fine, took my time, took it out on a test about 3 hours later. The bottom end picked up quite a bit. And the sound, I don't exactly know what happened, but it sounds like a race car when you get on it. I mean the exhaust is different, and of course you can hear air now, but man am I glad I did this. I tooled over to TC to read all the doom and gloom, but I still put it on. I took some pics.

Did you do the install yourself? Any hints? Will adding a cold air intake like that void the warrenty? i'b be interested to hear what it does to your mpg.

Thanks

This is a truck with under 7,00 miles. It isn't even broke in. The directions were easy to follow. I get my oil changed in the morning, and I am going to ask the dealership about the warrenty. K&N says it does not, we shall see. The performance and sound changed radically, at least it feels like it did!

I never got any better milage with any mods I did, infact it always got worse. If it sounds better I tend to stuff my foot in it a tad bit more

Hey Greg O. Did the Magnaflow exhaust make any difference in performance? I just bought an `06 Prerunner and am thinking of an identical setup as yours, except I may add headers as well.

I never have had it on a dyno. If you read the forum here, as well as other sites, you will find that headers (usually) require dyno work. The computer gets confussed. And as FLATBOY states, your foot will be in it for the sound. I like the sound, but it is not an 8 cylinder sound, in which it can't, it is a six. But it does sound good when you stick it to it, and it does go.

Does the noise from your k&n interfere with your media sound?

No the noise isn't that loud. On the exhaust I just had the local exhaust shop cut out the stock muffler and put in a magnaflow. It DOES NOT sound like a V-8, but does make the V-6 it has in it sound much better. I have a stock stereo system and just turn it up when I am getting on it if i don't want to here it, but that sound, there is just something terribly addicting to it at about 3500 RPM in third gear and mashing the gas.

Will you let us know if you do put headers on, that is something I have thought about doing to my Taco. I have long tubes on my mustang but now it will not pass inspection due to the check engine light is on, wasn't sure if the that would happen with the shorties for the Tacoma.

The part number for the one I got is 63-9025, if you search that on amazon or ebay, you might be able to find it.

Yes it does, unless you go with a Toyota TRD air intake. Preferibly installed by Toyota. Save the original parts in case of problems!!!!!!!
