Well i've read numerous threads on cutting out the hood scoop, some guys say it works and some guys say that it doesn't work. So I guess what this thread is going to be for, is to finally figure it out. If you have any opinions on it, then please chime in but if you have a point, please have facts to back it up. Hopefully this turns out great and I will come to a conclusion on whether or not to cut out my hood scoop. Thanks alot for your time and help.

It is too low to catch air. They only thing it will do is help with hot air build up in the engine compartment.

    Check Build Thread!!
You can cut out the insert, and you will get more air flow throught the engine area. This isn't nessecary seeing as how we have very good cooling systems (unless you are boosted and tuned for extreme conditions), and just causes faster dust and dirt build up inside the engine bay.

Edit: are you refering to making it into a ram air system?

    Build thread in sig...
i did it years ago when i had nothing better to do. after 3 years of driving with it, there has been no noticable change in mileage, power, engine temp, etc. my air filter is a little cleaner, that's all. spend your time and money on something more useful.

This may be a bit off topic, but has anyone ever tried putting a LED Lightbar in there? Was wondering that last night.

    ^That.

The scoop is in a high velocity, low pressure area of the hood-so it will not force extra air into the intake system. Sitting still it'll allow for some heat dissipation..but that's about it. And it lets rain and dust into the engine bay.
