I've been trying to reasearch when everyone has changed their oil for the 1st, 2nd, or whatever time until 5k. It seems that everyone is varied about mileage and to use dyno or synthetic. My plan is to use synthetic for the life of the time, but when to start.

Anybody know what exact oil that Tacoma's are shipped with? I would assume that if you change your oil under 5k, you would what the exact oil just without metal particles from break in. I've read that rings, pistons, and other engine parts need to break in w/ dyno rather than synthetic. Don't really know, that's why I'm asking...

    Please write in any suggestions.

I waited till the recommended 4500 and changed with synthetic. Changed it last week and it feels to run better with the synthetic.

Changed to Synthetic at 85,000 miles. I didn't know much about synthetic until reading up on it here & elsewhere. I will be using synthetic Mobil 1 from now on.

Too bad you didn't post this sooner. I put a deals/coupon thread up a few weeks ago. Advance Auto parts had a deal on Mobil 1 with the filter $29. I think the deal expired Nov 1st.

    FWIW:

First at 5K and the rest at 5K (2).

All with Mobil 1 5w30 Synthetic and a Wix filter.

Next will be Amsoil, cause it will be slightly cheaper for me and it's a true synthetic.

I would be cautious replacing with synthetic so early in your engines life. Synthetic oil wouldn't break your truck in properly. wear almost stops, not good for certain internal parts. I would follow the manual recommendations, until at least 5000miles. IMO

I am going to have Toyota do mine this week. Roughly 2100 Miles. I won't be back near a Toyota shop for another month and by that time I will have nearly 5000 on it with around 33% of that off road. Real dusty in the oil patch.

Changed the factory oil at 3k. Wanted to give the engine time to break in a little on what it came to life with. Also, Full synthetics usually are not worth a shit for breaking an engine in... At least this is what i learned from our race engines.. (always broke them in with reg. castrol, then switched them over to royal purple racing 11. Helped seat the rings quite a bit

Whats the cost for a filter/oil change with synthetic?
    Dealer?
    Do it yourself?
I have always used dino oil and have it done at the dealer, rotate the tires at the same time.
