Converter Issues

I'm trying to gauge the frequency and issues with catalytic converters on Tacomas and other Toyota trucks. I have been running into a lot of people locally who have had their originals fail for whatever reason, and also those who have had them stolen. A significant number of them have then chosen to replace them with aftermarket and had problems with catalyst codes recurring with aftermarket replacements.

So how many of you have had your converters replaced, and how many of you have had issues or not had issues, and what did you end up using that worked.

 

Same issues. Check engine light goes on and off randomly. Had it checked by dealership- cat conv code. Replaced with after mkt cat conv. Check engine light stayed off for a few days and is now back on. Took it back to dealership, same code. Very frustrating! Are these vehicles set to reject transplants???? Seems so.

 

I am aware that most aftermarket converters are known to be problematic. What brand did you use? Was it is a universal type or was it s a bolt in type?

 

I've had zero problems with the catalytic converter on any of my trucks or our 4Runner, other than being stolen. That's with both the OEM and Magnaflow cats.

 

Thats interesting, because Magnaflow is one of the brands people are having problems with. I never had good luck with Magnaflows on anything.

So if you had success with Magnaflow, what line or series, because that matters. And what year was the vehicle.

 

I sold the truck a year ago and don't remember which model cat I had in it. The truck was a 1989 Xtra Cab that I did the 3.4 swap in. The donor engine was from a 1996 4Runner. I might have mentioned the cat somewhere in my build thread (link in my sig).

 

Getting my 2013 4cyl 4x4 Taco's catalytic converter replaced today. Blew it out yesterday...
