Only got 270 miles out of my tank....

I drive a 05 4door taco. is there anything i can do to get that up? i have no upgrades with intake or filter. anything would help. And i was babying it of the start. keep it well under 2200rpm.

on the free way keep it around 60mph that should help alot

 

I dont think thats too far off. My last tank was 340 mostly highway.
Just do all the regular maintenance, use OEM products and drive 55mph and like there an egg between you foot and the pedals.

 

I found babying it off the start actually didn't do much, it actually hurt a little. Take off normal, with traffic (don't race the engine). Driving conditions influence MPG's greatly, flat vs mountain roads, highway vs back roads. I'll actually get worse MPG's on the highway with the cruise set at 70 than I do on back roads with stop signs and lights with lower speed limits and traffic.

Tires can be a factor, do you run a heavy, wide mud tire or a road tire? Are they E rated or Passenger tires?

Maintenance helps also, clean air filters, new plugs, grease the driveline and I run injector cleaner through every couple of months to help out also.

 

Try checking the air pressure in your tires and make sure it's correct. Tires in general will affect your MPG. Having a "P" rated road tire will help MPG as well.

 

Stay just under 2000rpm and you'll get a lot more. I find a huge difference between 1950 and 2100 rpm.

 

Figure the milage by filling it all the way up.
Set a trip meter to 0 drive at least 1/2 of the tank, fill it up to the top again.
Note the gallons used and divide them into the miles driven on the trip.

If you went 200 miles and used 10 gallons you are getting 20miles per gallon.

This can be less accurate if tires are taller or shorter than stock changing the miles you drive.

Sometimes you will get better ( hiway ) and sometimes worse ( stop and go in town )

Check every fill up and then you can get a good avg.

 

The tires are stock. No upgrades whatsoever. The tire pressure is ideal, and I am great when it comes to maintenance. And it is a automatic transmission.

 

270 is about what I get out of mine on average. '07 4x4 double cab 6spd w/ lift and 33's.

 

I also have an 05, with a 3" lift and 32" tires, and i get 18.2 MPG.

That's what I use to get but suddenly in the last two months with stock tires and no real mods its gone down to 220 a tank that's about 14 mpg I've kept up maintenece but it just kept going down gonna c what I get out of this tank its looking like maybe 200 and no codes or engine light plugs and airfilter changed this month Idk wat it is I wish I still got 270

 

thats what i get from F-E n i have a 3 in lift, 4:56 gears with 285s there really isnt much u can do...my rpms at 70 are at 2500

 

So....How may gallons did it take to refill the tank after 270mile.

Hell I wish I got that but I use my truck mostly for towing and i get 10.5 -12 mpg most of time..

It's a ROckwood mini lite 1809. Dry weight is 3220. It's 18' trailer but they call it 20' w/ the tongue. Loaded with 10 gals of water, two batteries, two LP tanks and our stuff, its between 3600-3800. The bike is 350# but I don't haul it with the trailer very often.

My stock Taco pulls it just fine. I've hauled it over the mountains and through the valleys with no problems. It does work in the hills but pulls just fine.

Here is a vid of a hill pull in W. Va. I say in the vid that its 5-6% but it is actually 7-8% grade. This is with the trailer at dry weight but it pulls just the same loaded. 3200-3500 rpm's is the sweet spot, I could accelerate if I wanted to, but no need. Turn up the volume to hear engine.

 

i get just about 450 miles out of my tank!

 

I don't think i've ever gotten 270 miles out of a tank... lol normally around 240-250.

 

Before my lift I got 294 miles and the gas light didn't come on yet....I averaged 19mpg hwy and city combined......just lifted the truck so more than likely I will be averaging 15 mpg...

 

Getting 315 on a full tank...stock DC TRD
