How much did you pay for your 30,000 mile service?

I just hit 30,000 miles and when I went to schedule the service online, I found out it was going to cost around $450. So, I wanted to check with everyone to see if that's about right. The service lists a whole bunch of inspections to go along with the oil change. Are they all neccessary? I'm holding off to see what the norm is, thanks for your help.

 

Here's what I was talking about...


30,000 Mile Service [Tacoma 2004 and newer] (also at 60K, 90K)

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Replace engine air filter
Replace spark plugs (std. type)
Rotate and balance tires, inspect condition and
Fuel induction service
Transmission service (drain & refill)
Test battery and clean battery terminals
Lube lock, latches and hinges
Top off under-hood fluid levels

Inspect the following:
- Automatic transmission fluid
- Ball joints and dust covers
- Brake lines and hoses
- Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
- Drive shaft boots
- Engine coolant
- Exhaust pipes and mountings
- Front differential oil (all 4WD models)
- Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
- Fuel tank cap gasket
- Manual transmission oil
- Radiator core and condenser
- Rear differential oil (All 4WD models)
- Steering gear box
- Steering linkage and boots
- Transfer case oil (all 4WD models)





The cost was $440.34.

 

Mine was about $300, I had it done at a shop here in town. They got all the fluids and parts from the stealership

 

My total was a little less than $300. But with the help of TW I am able to do most of the maintenance myself. Helps save a buck.

 

is the fuel induction service at 30,000 miles worth it?

 

I got quoted $350 for mine. I didn't get too far into asking what was included. I ended up only getting an oil change from the dealership. I changed the front end, rear end and transfer case fluid on my own and rotate my own tires.

 

I did the engine, rear diff, front diff, xfer case oils and rotated the tires along with cabin and engine air filter replacement myself. Only thing missing now is the spark plugs and automatic transmission fluid. Not sure if I really need to do those yet. xfer case oil looked pretty clean.

 

Antioch ( California ) Toyota charged me $369.95 for 30,000 mile service ( replaced sparks plugs & oil change & replaced engine coolant & replaced air filter & etc ) last month.My 2000 Tacoma had 201,000 on it when I took it in.

Never had my truck serviced at any independent shop ( at a cheaper price ) in the past 10 years,didn't want to risk the chance of some unethnical mechanic jerk purposely mess up my vehicle.

 

Yea, cause the dealership sets the ethical bar so high .

The dealerships usually aren't smart enough to cover their tracks if they cut corners and their easier to argue with and get it fixed. At least that's been my experience but I always test them like mark the oil filter to make sure I have a new one when I get it back, chaulk or ink pen the drain plug to make sure it was actually removed, etc. Not that I don't trust them, it's just that I don't trust them...

 

I am with you on that. Make sure you get what you pay for.

 

The only thing I did was change the engine oil. I'm at 43k and still havent done anything except oil changes. The price places charge is insane to me.

 

I agree. Prices are insane, and you never know if they are going to do something bad to your ride, whether you know them or not ( I am referring to a shop). I have mechanic friend do most of my work. For example we just did the front brakes yesterday. It cost me $38 for ceramic pads. He did a great job. Cleaned and used proper gels for all parts. He even smoothed out the rotors with a air gun disc. The stealership here in S. Florida wanted $220.00 for front brake pad replacement.

Damn, I'm about to hit 30k. Ummm is the sparks plugs change really needed?

 

Let me tell you from experience they do half what the list says they do, I had one done that said the the cabin filter good, guess what it didnt even have one in it, second it said the air filter for the intake was good it was way dirty, 3rd the brakes was in specs the the frt was warped the rotors that is I complained they fixed it. tell me they really do it.... just a way to get money into the service department Oh by the way the transmission is totally sealed come on!!!! SCAM

ive done oil and filter, sparks, cabin air and engine air and ive spent about 100$, used mobile 1 syn. bout to do diff's thursday and ill be done and for a fraction of the cost and peace of mind in knowing i did the stuff the right way all the way
