Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
or turbo. That's about it. Bolt on aftermarket parts (chips, exhaust, intakes kits, etc.) provide negligible gains.

What, realistically is the life on that? With proper maintenance and all.

Just a personal note, not really on my own topic... I like to try to aim for a 200,000 mile life out of an engine... I hate to build past tolerances so I can get power out the door... only to have to rebuild at 60,000 miles.

    :D

    I didn't say fast, I said "Performance"

in my mind that relates to overall power. Dunno about you all, but I tend to go for low end torque over top end speed.

    at least in trucks.

OP you'll notice here shortly that starting threads like this are pointless! All you're gonna get is a select few people that actually respond with relevant answers to ur question and put actual usable input into the tread and then a shit load of people that respond in a way that is completely useless to what you're trying to figure out by telling you to "buy a car" and "tacomas cant be performance"! If you really ever want these questions answered, i dont think you'll get them here without this tread turning into a shit talking contest

A TRD supercharger and a good tune with a urd maf cal or a map3 or other tuning device will net you good results. Start with that and you could move up to some more mods if you would like.

I can tell, but I like to pose what should be interesting discussions... then seeing how much BS it can get stuffed with before a fight breaks out.

Its what happens when you create a club that's free and has no competency tests required for admission. I'm okay with it.

I do find it funny, that so many people lack the reading comprehension to tell "Performance" from "fast"

Never said I wanted fast. I do want performance.

OP, please define the performance you are looking for. I consider my vehicle to perform it's role beautifully. It's a grocery getter, daily driver, fishing hole finder, mobile camp site, stuff hauler and road tripper! The mods I added to my truck aid in it's role as listed above.

Do you want it to ride on rails? Burn rubber? Haul loads? Sound good? Look good?

A vehicle's "performance" is in the eye of the beholder and can only be measured against specific criteria dictated by it's role.

    Brilliantly stated inquiry! thank you!

Like the topic states... I am asking for general ideas on what can be done. in terms of powerplants. things big to small. to enhance them in various ways.

Personally. If and when I buy a Taco. I plan to load it with survival gear and mountain bikes. and slap on a fair amount of body armor. SO open road speed doesn't matter to me greatly. but getting around zippily off road. matters.

To obtain bolded statement isn't going to come from any performance mods you do i.e. supercharger, intake, muffler, or anything really. You obtain that with driving abilities, a good spotter if needed, and the correct equipment like you mentioned, i.e. body armor and lockers if needed.

For offroading yes. But on the pavement how will that work out?

My thinking is on pavement just riding...pending on what gears you go with it would hurt your mpg.

The OP mentioned that he plans to get a Tacoma.

Ok, which type? 4x4, PreRunner, XRunner?

You statements have still been far to vague to be able to give insightful input in any matter of direction you intend to take.
