Oil Filter Poll

So what is everyone using? If you want, write in the model that you are using if it's out of the normal spec, aka oversized or for Tundra ect.

Considering I am changing my oil for the first time today I have to say there is an OEM on it.

 

I have always used Fram but with my Tacoma, I use the OEM.

 

I started this thread back in May and it kinda got lost. No biggie.

Maybe it'll come back to life again (and remind me to update it).

Thanks Janster! I did a couple searches but never found this thread.

 

I like the K & N. It filters down to 10 microns and has the convenient 1 inch nut on the end for easy removal. Any name brand quality oil filter is probably fine though. JMO.

 

Ive just always used a K&N, my buddy wont use anything other than OEM on his taco

I do crazzy test on things like how to rustproof cars and i finaly have my way of doing that, also over the years i have been trying all kinds of filters. Cutting them open after 3000 miles, checking the poil pressure on start ups and watching pressure before and after the filter on my test bench. I have found the filtration and springs in the pure 1 filters are awsome for keeping oil pressure high on a cold start and getting some nasty things out of the oil. After 3 grand pure 1 filters still have better oil flow then all the leading brands including k & n and toyota. I will only use a pure 1 filter, and do on every car we drive.
I also see no different in the trd and toyota filter other then more flow holes on the top, does not make any difference in pressure.

 

Opinions on what filter to use is like what's better, coke or pepsi; everyone has a personal taste. I am surprised however by anyone who is a car/truck fanatic would spend the $4 on a Fram filter . They are cheaply made, and quite honestly, better quality filters can be had for the same amount of money, like the Napa NASCAR select. It has a syntetic media and metal end caps, where the Fram has cardboard end caps glues to the paper filter element. But hey if it works for you, go for it. K&N for me. Another one that likes that nut.

 

hell yeah Napa Gold filters for me. its the only filter i run. its great its got a check valve and it filters the oil very well. some oil filters dont even have check valves

 

i have been using mobil1 filters for a good while now............but sometimes, i'll run basch filters too. havent had a problem outta either.

 

Back when I drove a VW Bosch was all I would purchase, coils, plugs, wires, hell I didn't have a "TRUE" oil filter on the Bus I drove but if I didn't use Bosch on the Electrical Componets I could tell a difference, so I have kept Bosch in the back of my mind till this day which is why I use Bosch Oil filters when I can find them. If I cant find Bosch I use Mobil 1 filter because I run Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil, is it better? Who knows, but I sleep pretty good.

 

You said yourself "Everyone has a personal taste" - so why does everyone have to bash any given products?

If you know it's a personal preference - then leave it at that. This thread was started to ask what filter people use. Nobody asked what filters don't you like. Sorry, I'm sooooooooo sick and tired of seeing the Fram bashing.

 

I stated why I don't like Fram...Let me ask you this Janster, When you bought your truck, why did you pick Toyota and not say Ford, Chevy or Nissan or even Dodge? Was one of the reasons the Toyota name and reliability? Well I say if I had $4 to spend on an oil filter, I would want to buy the best built, most reliable filter, and based on research it's not Fram. Would you rather have the end caps of your filter be made of cardboard or solid metal? Due to the presure the oil filter faces, I prefer metal that holds up. What happens if cardboard gets wet? Falls apart huh. I choose not to buy Fram as do many of the poster on this site. No need to get petty or upset about it. If the OP bothered to ask the question, he probably wants an educated opinion. If Fram floats your boat and you sleep at night...good for you, it's your money. I can care less what oil filter you choose to use I am not here to change your mind.
