URD Cold Air Intake

I was looking into getting the URD Cold Air intake and was wondering if anyone had gotten this and is it easy to do at home... I just put the TRD Exhaust on myself and love it. Im not exactly Joe Car Mechanic either so I dont really know what the benefits are of a cold air intake but I always here people complaining about getting water in them and screwing up their engines... Also on the URD website they recommend getting a sensor chip, is that really necessary? Any input would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance

the urd intake appears to be one of the best on the market( i like my airaid intake), and you get more out of it if you couple it with urd maf callibrator. look out for pb2themax, as he has both. im sure he could tell you alot more about it.

It's not as easy as the average intake to install, but its not insanely hard or anything either.

You will need to cut a hole in the sheet metal behind the pass side headlight area in order to route the intake to the grill area. Also you will need to extend the MAF sensor wires (solder them on the the existing wiring). Other than that, pretty basic.

For more info on the MAF calibrator and how it works, read this thread so i dont have to explain it again cuz im lazy

Would the URD Chip void my warranty... thats really a concern since I only have 10k miles on my baby and am covered until 100k... when I bought the truck and had the Alarm put on, they said if someone else did it and screwed something up, that it would void the warranty... so if something screws up with the electrical system, it will probably be void... Tacomaman, how do you like your airraid CAI??? That seems to be what im most leaning towards so that I dont have to go cutting holes into my truck... and have you noticed an benefits from it???

i like my airaid intake just fine. it looks really clean, and theres no cutting involved. i got maybe a mile more to the gallon(maybe one more with my exhaust), but to be honest with ya, ive kinda got a lead foot sometimes, so i dont pay alot of attention to my mileage. you can tell the truck does breathe better though.

and as far as the electrical on the urd maf calibrator, they can only void the warranty if they can prove that the product is the actual cause of the problem!

I meant the airaid intake that you have... the urd CAI seems great but I dont want to go cutting holes in my truck after only having it for 6 months

Airaid Intake

Well I went with the Airaid, just waiting for it to come in the mail, I'll let you know how it goes once I get it on... After talking to a guy at work, it sounds like a chip would be a good idea... do you think the URD chip would still work good without the URD CAI???

Yes, URD's MAF Calibrator will still work with a different intake, exhaust, etc.

Just remember in order for the calibrator to serve it's purpose, you will need either a wideband, or to have it dyno-tuned.

Wideband Oxygen sensor, basically it can read your air/fuel ratio when you're driving so you know if you need more/less fuel at certain rpm's or boost levels.

Could you use a Scan Tool (BR-CAN + Software) instead of doing the wideband tuner???

For those of you that have the URD TCAI, are you using a K&N drycharger or the Amsoil version of the same thing?

I plan on getting one or the other, but more to cover the BLUE intake from being shown when I redo the grill.

What do you guys (and gals) thinks?
