More power for towing

Hi,

I have a '97 Tacoma 4WD w/ 3.4L. It has a freshly rebuilt trans w/an upgraded valve body kit and a freshly rebuilt motor. I want to get more towing power out of it for towing my pop up trailer and dirtbike. What do you guys recommend?

Supercharger. Only mod that you will actually notice a gain from. Trust me... I know how little N/A mods do.

Yeah, I thought about that. That's partly why I had the valve body upgraded, but don't really want to spend $3500+ for it. But, guess if I have to I have to.

If you really want to notice a difference towing it really is your best priced option... You also will lose low end power with N/A mods until you are forced induction due to the loss of back pressure. I have seen S/C kits for your truck for for around $2k

Didn't know that back pressure will be lost with N/A mods. I have heard to have the S/C work right and well, you also need a 7th injector kit, Unichip and I believe a different fuel pump and I think some other things that I can't remember.

I agree with the supercharger or a larger truck.

That's a viable option as well. Not a monster for power, but much better than the 3.4 nonetheless

There ya go. The 4.7 V8 will have more torque to tow and the larger truck will give you a higher capacity should you need it. I hear MPGs are as good as a 2nd gen V6 double cab.

My 3.4 gets slightly better MPGs than the 4.7. I was surprised how close it was.

Yup. You aren't stressing the engine as much since you have more torque on tap.

This isn't good news since I just purchased my 2012 V6 Taco so I could tow a small Travel Trailer.
Well has to be better than my 79' VW Camper
