K&N 63 series help

I have an '09 taco prerunner and i wanted to put the K&N 63 series air intake on my truck. my truck is only 2 wheel drive. i had a couple of questions: 1)is this worth my time effort and money? and 2)is it a relatively simple installation?

Shouldn't take you more than thirty minutes to install.

I have one and with the stock exhaust you won't hear anything until you mash on it, and then it sounds wonderful.

It's also potentially damaging to the engine. The K&N does not filter worth a shit. Stick with stock paper. The stock intake and filter flow more than enough air to feed a 4.0... your 2.7 is not stressing it.

Sure. I'd call it a 2-beer job.

 

Its very easy to install even if you're a nooby to car stuff.

I had one, but took it off. I don't think it's worth it. Sounds awesome! But otherwise you gain nothing but heatsoak.

 

I had one. took it off and sold it. your stock intake is a "cold air intake"
the K&N is a hot air intake. do you think that little metal shield really keeps the hot engine air out of the filter?

if you want a little more power, save up and get headers and a URD MAF CAL

 

i do have the 4.0 v6 in it so thats why i was wondering about this upgrade. are there any others out there that would be more beneficial? im looking to get the sound as well as some extra power out of this

i have one on my 2005 4.0 v6 and i love it, the only down side is oiling it.

Like oil consumption far above normal for Toyota at 100,000 miles.
Crosshatch from the factory honing still visible at 50k (good), with severe cylinder scoring (bad).
Commentary from Blackstone on used oil analysis stating that the elevated silicon levels indicate a possible sealing issue in the intake system or a torn air filter.

Want noise? Get an exhaust. It might even bump your performance a bit.
