FJ vs Tacoma exhaust

I saw this in a thread earlier but I never saw the answer and the past 2 hours I've been looking for the answer. Can anyone tell me the difference between the Tacoma and FJ exhaust? I've heard the same muffler on the FJ that I have and it sounds MUCH better, it's much deeper, louder, etc. I believe I read that the reason was the muffler was closer to the catalytic converters on the FJ than the taco? Any input? And if anyone has a measurement of how far back the muffler is from the cats on the FJ that would be awesome. I'm going to the exhaust shop in the morning so quick replies would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Are you sure you didn't just hear the TRD exhaust?

Yes, I switched to a borla xr-1 muffler. Completely different sound.
First of all does the placement of the muffler being closer or farther to the cats even matter??

Not sure on placement, the piping could be different diameter or the exhaust could have resonators.

He kept stock piping and did not add anything except the muffler. I did the same.

I would think that the muffler being closer to the engine would mean the sound it's muffing is louder. In a taco it would have further to travel meaning the muffler has less work to do.. If that makes sense at all.

I have no proof of anything, just my thoughts

If you want a throaty sound just run a 5" straight pipe stack out of the bed.

If it's a 2010+ Fj you have the Dual VVT-i, which has more HP than the VVT-i engines we got.. So that might play in as A factor of the sound.. I may be wrong, just A guess...
