I have a 2010 manual transmission 4cyl, and sometimes when driving, I hear this weird "khh" sound when I release the clutch. It only does it about 30% of the time, and only when I am releasing the clutch into neutral from any gear.

Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

Throwout bearing going bad would be my first guess.

How many miles you got on the beast?

    Warranty??

I am still going to suggest the throwout bearing. Especially if its in every gear. The 6 speed manuals are notorious for internal issues. Synchros, throwout bearings, etc. Etc.

I beleive the release bearing on the slave cylinder is constant meaning it turns all the time keeping your clutch self adjusted , however you could be hearing the clutch release bearing moving back and forth on the slave cylinder shaft . The slider shaft on the slave cylinder does get dry over time to the point where the release bearing will actually start to twist and bind
The Khh sound you describe is difficult to diagnose over the keyboard . Is there any chance you could take it to a shop for a free test drive ?

X2 these cars have too many moving components to diagnose over the keyboard. Get it into a shop and get it inspected. We are just providing you some preliminary tips where to start checking.

The noise you describe sound to be a normal noise in a Tacoma trans. I have seen several come in my dealer for this complaint and contact Toyota with a case and they say its a normal operational noise . It is operating as designed. My suggestion is to take it to your local dealer and have it verified that the noie you are hearing is the same noise i am speaking of. They have a TSB for it.

Thanks for the advice. The only thing that worries me about it is that I hadn't heard it or noticed it before. It is possible that it was always happening too, so i'm not ruling that out. But the last time I heard a noise that seemed off I took it in to the dealership when I had 7K miles on it and they replaced the transmission, so I am always skeptical...
