1st Gen vs 2nd Gen TRD CAI

Hey guys,
I've searched the forums to no avail and was wondering what the difference was between the 1st gen TRD CAI and the 2nd gens now available on TRDParts4u. Other than the obvious visual change and it looks like the 2nd gens no longer use a cone filter, what's the major difference? Something Smog related? If I could get my hands on a used 1st gen, what is a fair price?

It is because of smog reasons. The 1st Gen TRD was not CARB legal because it removed the carbon trap. However, it was by far the better performer. It was made by AFE. They still make that same style, but it is under their name now. www.urdusa.com has them for sale.

The second gen is made by K&N I believe. It has turbulence issues. And not near as smooth a design. As well as a flat filter.

Basically, get the AFE. Keep the stock filter for the "just in case" moments.
