Cold air intake system

I have 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4 door long bed 4.0 L V6 Automatic, lifted. And I'm looking to buy a cold air intake system. I live in California and i want something street legal with CARB stamp. I also like the best performance.

I've got a 1st gen, ex cab, 3.4L v6, and have a Volant CAI. Not sure what carb stamp is- but mine's legal.. Breathes great, I feel the power, and it sure sounds awesome

U could just keep the factory 1 in ur garage and run anything u want till its smog time.

Stock setup does draw in roughly ambient temps at speed... most intakes draw from same location as stock and it negates any cold air claims over factory.

Volant offers a scoop/ram........urd offers an exposed filter just behind the grill.

Otherwise, I think all the rest draw from same area as factory.

I think the only thing that's legal in Cali is the TRD version 2 intake. Save your money, just buy a better filter.

It draws air from the fenderwell, which comes from behind the headlight.

The stock filter is the best filter you can use.
It flows more air than any non-supercharged 4.0 can pull.

"Washable" filters do not filter as well, which leads to cylinder scoring and increased oil consumption as the engine ages.



But you aren't going to listen to that because it's not what you want to hear and you want to see a cool cone filter when you open the hood.

I don't prefer them over any others.......I just meant those are the only intakes capable of POSSIBLY drawing cooler air than stock.

Damn near every aftermarket intake has cons along with its pros......may I ask why u want an aftermarket 1?

Hp/tq gains are prolly overrated.....cost of stock filters is cheap enough and they don't need to be tossed that often, unlike jiffy boob likes to tell ya.

No kidding.

Iffy Lube will yank that filter out every 3000 and tell you that "it isn't bad but you'll need a new one before next time"
I thought factory interval was 30k, but someone posted a couple of months ago that it's INSPECT every 30k and replace every 60k.

It's $15 from Camelback for a new Toyota OEM filter.
That's $150 for filters for the life of the truck if you change every 30k.

I wont lie, I worked there to pay bills......I refused to reccomend air filters to people who didn't need them.. got in a huge argument with the manager over him asking me to lie to customers to boost sales.....I left for the day and quickly found a new job.

Jiffyboob is all about money/kickbacks and managers bonuses.....dont let anyone tell u.... otherwise.

I was stuck there for my company cars since the lease provided maintenance and repair.
Maintenance options were Iffy Lube, Firestone, or Goodyear.
I trust Firestone and Goodyear less than Iffy Lube, and Iffy Lube was convenient around the corner.

Every time, they'd bring out their list of recommended items, and every time I'd point to the phone number on the approval sheet that THEY had printed out and tell them "I'll take whatever they say it needs"

They "approved" air filters every 15k, and half the time Iffy Lube was out of stock on them so I'd end up buying one myself.
Boss was never happy when I turned in the receipt.

My factory air filter is pooped in 5000k! I wheel a lot though. Lots of nasty areas.

Honestly the factory intake is ideal.
