A few questions about fuel mixture

I've been reading on here over the last two years now that I've been on the site and I've been reading that these trucks run a little rich and that could cause some issues in the perfomrance department. IS this true? if so is there a way to correct this, ie better spark plugs or scan guage type item? I'm not the most mechanicaly inclined person which is why I am asking. I have an 06 with 108k and all the proper service done.

Everything is electronic fuel injection, controlled by a computer. To directly alter fuel mixture, you'll need something to change the tables within the computer, or some way to alter/trick it to get the end result you want. The computer (I believe) is always targeting stoich at idle/cruise, and probably only running a bit rich under load and full throttle. A little extra rich at full throttle is an extra safety blanket, not a bad thing to have... you're not going to gain much power just by leaning it out a bit. If you started bolting on a ton of aftermarket parts (intake, header, exhaust), then it may be worthwhile to get something to tune the vehicle with, as you'll want to ensure all parameters are within a safe limit, and then at that point you might as well try to get the most out of it that you can.

Scan gauge type item will just display what various sensors (including AFR) the car is seeing...monitor only.

I'm still new to this platform, but if you want a few extra HP, without going all out, it sounds like the best way to go is to get a few breather mods- intake, exhaust, headers, etc.

They don't run rich, at least mine doesn't. Mine always hovers between 14:1-15:1 under normal driving conditions, which is ideal. When I hold the throttle wide open it drops to 12.5:1.
