Another Deck plate question

I don't go offroading or romp through water, just street driving. I live in So Cal, so I don't see a lot of rain. Will I be able to just drill a giant hole in my intake as if I was going to do a Deck plate mod, but not put in the deck plate? The Mod instructions say close the plate if your going through water and if your not going through water leave it open. Will this work or am I just dumb? and does this mod throw any codes up for increase air flow?

 

Your right..a big ole hole in your intake box probably won't pass the visual inspection.

 

I had the deckplate mod plus K&N filter on my 96 3.4L....
Never got any codes.

I left the thing open most of the time - so I guess you could cut a hole in it and leave it.

But...I'd highly recommend putting the deckplate in there just in case you need to close it from time to time. I mean - in dusty conditions, you'll wanna close it up or else your air filter's gonna get nasty real quick. Or maybe even in the winter time, close it off.

 

I did the mod on mine and aside from the deck plate being cleaner that the air box you can't really tell there's anything modified by glancing at it,

 

I did the DP mod on mine and left it wide open when it got smogged. In my experience, they rarely do a visual inspection.

 

With this mod, was the power noticeable, I got a k&n drop in already and felt a different admittedly compared to the crappy cotton filter.

 

I think you mean the crappy K&N, but that's for another thread. Anyhoo, I had better throttle response and my butt dyno told me it had a little more power.

 

Better throttle response.....with deckplate + K&N on my 96 manual.

 

Your right, I did my modified deck plate (just a big hole no plate) and the throttle response is better and a little bit of pick up. The price was right too..zero $$$!
