02 deckplate mod gone wrong

so being the idiot that i am i decided to go for the deck plate mod without proper planning.
i purchased this from west marine.

without even looking at my air box.
when i got home i was deciding where to put the deckplate and i realized that the outside of the airbox was rough. i was going to put the deck plate on the bottom half of the air box. (the side facing the wind shield washer fluid thing)

am i shit out of luck because the air box is not flush?
this is what i get when i try to rush things. (story of my life)
please help me if you have ideas. if not im out $20.

Well i just finished the deck plate mod. No problems because the rim of the deck plate sits deeper then the grooves on the air box. I really dont know what I was worried about. I guess i just had to read through the write up one more time. Thanks any ways.
For you guys wondering if you should do it, i noticed the intake is louder, closer to full throttle but i didnt really notice a power increase. Im gonna leave that for the header and exhaust to worry about

OP you're attempting to do the deckplate mod on a 4cyl airbox so the modification process will be different but you can still do it. Either shave the fins down all the way or cut the fins that interfere with the plate sitting flush
